non O visa based on marriage at vientiane

Featured Replies

Just when I think I got it all figured out, another confusion arrises, which is: are they going to just add an extra 60 days on my current ED visa ??.....or are they going to cancel that visa, and if so, Will they tell me I need a particular type of visa to put the extra 60 days on ???

If you are staying with an extension for studying Thai, the most likely is that Immigration will refuse any type of extension beside the one for studying, or 7 days to leave country. That is against written regulations, yet that is what they do in practice.

If you go back and read the OP immigration was willing to change the reason for his extension but could not do it because he lacked financial proof.

The OP was mixing up visas and extensions thinking he could change to a non-o without financial proof.

  • Vientiane does not do multiple entry visas. You can get one in Savannakhet with no financial proof.

  • The 60 day extension is to visit your wife it is not the same as the one year extension that requires the financial proof. They should do it without a problem.

Just got back from Nonthaburi immigration and NOW they said for an 60 days NO NEED to show money. I now believe it was the way i worded my Thai the first time I went. This time I basically asked (in Thai), for an "extra 60 days because I just got married"... she just handed me forms and told me about the next problem I have, which is hunting down the owner of the condo i rent and get copies of his tabien bahn and I.D. card signed by him, and also I need his signature on this application form. He stays very far away and im sure that building manager may have those copies, but lastly, I am a little afraid of just having my wife forge his signature on the app form. One thing after another.

# Lived here since 2003. All either multi entry non O from the UK before they went silly 2-3 years ago, with single entry non O from Vientianne in between when i ran out of the 15 months on the multi entry (staying 4 years non stop in country), and now Savannakhet for the multis.

# Downside is your passport fills up a bit fast (48 pages helps), and 3 monthly border runs. The border runs are not a downside for me, as i treat them as an enjoyable little day break / holiday.

# Upside is i don't have to deal with in country immigration. I never have got on with uniforms, excessive paperwork, and always had a distaste for busybodies in authority. Nor show money, nor show photos of me and the missus in the bedroom, in front of the house, witness/headman letters blah blah.

That does sound like the more favorable option. So my question would be, How many multi entry non O's could one have back to back, and not show money each time ??? ;...how many have you done so far without showing money each time ??

There is no limit to the number of visas you can get.

Others that do not enjoy the border hops can extend each entry for 60 days at immigration for Bt 1,900, bringing the interval to almost 5 months.

...and onced granted a multi ent. Non O, it seems that it would not be 100% sure that immigration points the the borders would stamp you for another 90 days wwithout some proof of financial stability. So what kind of documents would they want to see when doing the border run and activating each entension ???

No documents are required for border hops. A valid visa is all what is needed. Some corrupt border post can occasionally try to extract Bt 200 in place of showing Bt 20,000 cash, as the written regulation would allow them.

As stated, i have had non stop multi and single entry Non O visas since 03. That makes it 12 years this September.

Is the list of documents required for non-o in Vientianne the same as Savannahket?
