Good Chinese Food In Bangkok?

Recommended Posts

Any recommendations?

Can be a cheap local eatery to a nicer restaurant just as long as it's tasty.

Ideally something NOT in China Town as it's a bit of a trek from me.

Anywhere on the BTS line is fine.

Thanks

Small chinese restaurant , go to Phrom Phong BTS station ( Emphorium bldg )

Just down the street walk south past Robin Hood pub keep walking until you arrive at Villa Market then turn right into small soi / carpark and walk in there 60 meters on your left is a nice chinese restaurant , food excellent, tasty and authentic Chinese ..

Chinese owned and operated. Worth the visit. wai2.gif

It would be interesting to know what style of Chinese food these various recommendations serve. To the best of my recollection, there are eight basic regional styles of Chinese food from China. Recommending a restaurant which serves excellent authentic "Chinese food" is akin to recommending a restaurant which serves excellent authentic "European food". Probably, most of the recommendations are Cantonese food - are there any good Szechuan restaurants ?

if you're referring to Dalian restaurant, yeah, I've been meaning to try it - here are the reviews on tripadvisor:

Very convenient if you like shopping at Villa, can park and then go eat too.

**Though, my personal long-time favorite is Chandphren (which also has a lot of parking- but also only a 2 minute walk from MRT station) on the corner of Rama 4 and Soi Ngam Du Pree.:

An interesting OP as I find Chinese cuisine in Bangkok a bit hit-and-miss for my taste (UK- I guess primarily Cantonese influenced).

I am not a big fan of chicken/goose feet, jellyfish, abalone or shark fin! These appear to be staple menu items at many Chinese restaurants in Bangkok.

The restaurant which best suits my own tastes is Jasmin at Times Square- accessible via walkway from BTS Asok. Decent Cantonese food on offer.

Agreed. Seems to me most US-Chinese restaurants advertised themselves as Szechuan. But what passes for Chinese food in BKK restaurants is not even a distant 4th cousin to Chinese food in US. (BKK Chinese restaurants are also notably different from Hong Kong - Cantonese - restaurants.)

But I'll give a couple of the restaurants mentioned here a try. Thanks for the info, guys.

You wont find Chinese food that tastes the same as Chinese American Restaurants anywhere but in the US. Elsewhere it is likely to more authentic.

Not true. A Chinese-American restaurant called Fortune Cookie opened a few months ago.

Excellent. Bland, dumbed down Chinese-American food in Thailand catering especially for the "acquired" American taste. Must give it a try sometime when I'm tired of authentic Chinese food.

More authentic is not better , maybe they should copy the USA style .clap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gif

Indeed. Just like McDonalds hamburgers, KFC fried chicken, Pizza Hut pizza and Starbucks coffee. Soooooo good.
