I think the op dose not know much about thailand at all , some of the things are wright but I have seen first hand how western man get ripe of here and I am not a farlang ok I am from the west , farlang is a racist word .

Say WHAT??

farlung is a racist word???????????? sooooooo georgemandm has just lost all credibility with me for interpretation of anything outside his area of expertise (if any).

Whatever that may be. Politically correct gone wild...The word folung (the usual spelling , but I am not associated with the language police) is a descriptive term

that applies to people of european ethnic origins. There is no judgement included in the term aside from obvious genetics.

A rough parallel would be to call someone over six feet "tall" or calling a fat chick "A Fat Chick".

If you have a problem with the word "Folung" I would sugest you go back to wherever you came from and seek "counseling".

Come back when you have delt with previous "trauma". and can accept the comonly used descriptor Folung

Signed

A Folung... ... ...

Is the UK full of violent skin-heads with punk haircuts and chains?

That is what I have heard.

The way things have gone in recent years in the UK it probably is
I was there last week, and it was not.

I will take your word for it. I have not been back there for many years.

It is shameful the way so many people that have never been here believe that all the guys coming here are coming for sex.

They don't realize that most of the men coming to Thailand are coming for the culture and to enhance their spiritual growth. Thousands of men come here and NEVER participate in any form of sex trade.

I never actually met one of them, but they must exist because there are so many posting on TV.

Any more shameful than many people believe all the immigrants going to the UK are doing so just for state benefits.

Agreed not all are but unfortunately there is a lot that are. Like everywhere a few tarnishes the majority

I respectfully suggest that a sad part of human nature is that its easier and more readily acceptable to believe the bad in something/someone than the good or positive, dependent on ones own demeanor or outlook on life.

Thailand is being misrepresented in the west by ignorant people. Basically us farang are crazy to move here..... what do YOU think? Are you crazy??

This is how the West sees the 'non-west'.

Many armchair specialists giving out expert theories.

That I guess is the privilege of the 'developed'.

In America the average perception seems to be that Thailand is it an impoverished hellhole full of starving people that sell their young children to sex slave brothels. People think all the girls in the bars for foreigners are child sex slaves. Fewer Americans go to Thailand than Brits, and we have 6 times as many people, so basically hardly anyone has any first or second hand knowledge of Thailand and views of it are completely ridiculous.

And half of Americans think Thailand is Taiwan, and can't point out either on a map!
when I was over in America I was asked by a woman where I came from and I replied London ,oh that's in France ain't it, most people I met there were very nice, but dim. Didn't have a clue about the world outside

I showed a pic of Austria in the snow to my Thai wife .She said she would like to go to see the sea there where my mate Bruce lives..................He lives in Australia . Just as well I hadn't booked up a surprise hoilday.

I would think westerners view would vary quite a bit. I believe folks in the UK may view Thailand differently than their American counterparts. In the US, it seems most Americans (who've never been to Asia, let alone SE Asia) may think of Thailand as being no different than the PI, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Lao, etc. Folks in Thailand shouldn't take offense. Americans who've never been to South America think all Latin countries are pretty much the same as well. Many Americans will get Taiwan and Thailand mixed up. Heck, some Americans think the Chinese bombed Pearl Harbor.

To be fair, I've never been to Africa and have a generally negative view of the place--dangerous, dirty, corrupt, disease-infested, etc. But then I'm sure there are expats who live there who will say that my view is completely wrong. And I'm sure they're right.

No....I've been to the dark continent a lot..you were 100% correct

Thailand is the best place for older men to hook up with mint condition 18-25 women who will happily please him in every way for mimimal compensation. Should be a doctors prescription for older males.

I doubt many are happy about it. Willing maybe.

Indeed. Three days before my brother's first trip to Thailand, he called me up to ask a question, which was:

"Hey, in Bangkok, is there a store where I can buy bread and stuff to make a sandwich?"

Wow.

It's worse when those who have been here believe the same thing.

I go to temple fairly regularly and aside from the occasional tourist, I rarely see any western men there.

I occasionally visit a gash-joint and they seem to be full of western men.

Some perceptions are a bit overstated, but others are unfortunately inaccurate, specifically, the extent and pervasiveness of corruption, poor construction quality, unsafe road conditions, poverty and the sex trade. Most foreign residents avert their eyes or ignore it. However, it's there.

It also seems to be the place where old men find their fantasy 15-21 year old boys and girls to use, abuse and throw away.

When places like Paradise in Patong or Boztown Pattaya are allowed to operate, that speaks volumes about the local governments and the nature of foreign customers of such venues.

Gay farangs have no less right to be entertained by Thais than straight ones and to make false accusations about the locations mentioned above is really low. Gay bars come under stricter scrutiny than straight ones and are therefore more above board. There have been raids on gay bars in pattaya in the past regarding age of employees but those were never located in boyztown.

How many of the men who didn't come to Thailand for sex are now married to women the same age or older than they are ?

I would guess at very few. So those that didn't come for sex but to get married to a beautiful young woman half their age, basically came for the sex.

surely you must agree that if we don't the tourist area living expats have even less chance.

who cares if they understand it or not, that's their choice, understanding a country doesn't make it any easier getting a visa, some people are not that insecure that they feel they must do everything they can to "integrate" and be accepted as some sort of pseudo-Thai at one with their "Thainess"

If someone goes out their way to "understand a country" great knock yourself out, but please don't start inferring someone is less worthy of being here because they don't want to "understand a country" or cant be bothered..

Agreed. And just perhaps it is not mysterious, and there is really not all that much to understand?

My wife is a few years younger than me. But we were married before we moved here.

So your point is that everyone's here for sex?

How stupid
