berybert Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 It is what it is..... Just watch and have a laugh .... Just one hour ago in Bkk sitting at McDs having a burger. Farangs doing same me finish and take their trays and dump in garbage can and put tray on top. Very simple and takes no effort. 100% of Thais, yes 100%, left their mess on the table with the exception of one who brings her tray over to the trash but only sets it on top of the other trays and does not dump.... why ???? Now farangs go to dump their tray but have to look around for a place to put the tray after dumping. Hahaha.... made me laugh but also wonder why we farang will take the time to do things correctly and kind while Thais will just ignore and leave someone else to clean up after them. Sometimes I see a cleaning lady picking up trays at some fastfood places but at McDs the cans are setup for the customers to do. Do you think perhaps Thais share a sense of entitlement ? Totally different mindset ... Farangs have been trained to do it, and I don't mean training in the positive way of acquiring a skill, I mean trained like an animal would be trained to automatically perform what its master wants. Personally, I do like some aspects of Asian culture, in particular the sense of who a customer is. You simply don't ask a customer to clean up trash. Yes we have been trained to do it. Most of us were taught to have a sense of pride, not to leave rubbish all over the place, use a bin were provided. Are you one of these people who say farang deserve to get a 2000 baht fine for dropping rubbish but its ok for Thai to do so ? 1

Popular Post dotpoom Posted March 22, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 22, 2015 Five months ago I reached the age of 65, I asked myself "What birthday present would I like from myself to myself". It took me 2 months to come up with the answer and this is how it came about...I was due to attend a meeting with a group of people and I didn't much feel like going, mainly because of late I have become very disillusioned with mankind in general. More and more I find people to be bad mannered and impolite ...like in not bothering to answer emails, not returning missed phone calls, not keeping appointments and not calling to explain why. When offered friendship or a helping hand they seldom if ever show genuine gratitude...not just a "thanks a lot" on the spot but maybe something like a follow up email or s.m.s. thanking for the generous thought or offer of assistance. I could go on and on. Yet because of the way I was brought up I would do my best to overlook these things and try to carry on as if it never happened...in other words not to become anti-social because of it. I had this experience with a good number of the people who were going to be at that meeting. So, I decided there and then on the spot that my present to myself was that I was going to play the "Game of Life" by my rules....not by the rules of my so called friends. If I am to get another good 10 years out of this life these years are going to be spent with real genuine people, people who care for me as much as I care for them. I am not living my life to please other people anymore. One by one now when any of the above instances happen I cross that person off my "Christmas card list". Granted, the amount of friends I have now can be counted on one hand (there are still some to be crossed off) so I think it will end up with two real genuine friends. Funny thing though.....instead of feeling alone or isolated it has in fact made me feel very liberated. I no longer have "two faced" people living "Rent Free" in my head. I don't have to worry anymore about what they might be saying to each other, I just couldn't care less. It's like a miracle has happened and the shackles of having to make excuses to myself for them has gone. Have I diverted from the topic.....sorry....what was the question again? 6
Wat dee Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Maybe it is the memory of the sixties - it took us only 10 years to completely change western society. And the change last about as long as the weed...

Totally agree, there is a big bin outside my wife's shop, yet they just throw stuff on the ground,i tell the kids in Thai to put it in the bin, which they do if they are outside, but if they go down the street, they just toss it any where,i can't really do this with the adults as it would be disrespectful,so i find myself doing a litter run most days, muttering and swearing, they can see i am not happy, but it is so ingrained in them, hard to make them change, hopefully some of the kids may get the message but i doubt it.

jdinasia Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 There are people doing there best to stop child prostitution, child labour. There are people who work with the homeless, the poor, the handicapped. Would you say to them "why are you trying to change things, why don't you just leave things the way they are ?" Sometimes things change for the better. Aren't you about to leave?

pgrahmm Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Maybe it is the memory of the sixties - it took us only 10 years to completely change western society. You mean screw it up. You sound like the reincarnation of my father.Maybe he sensed to upcoming free fall of western civilizationAs a child of the 60's that grew up not far from the Hashberry & B'zzerkly areas I see nothing that was accomplished there that created any sort of a legacy to be proud of.....it was a table setter for the morass that exists now.....It lacked insight, drive, and forward planning .....all traded off for me me me me thinking that paved the way for a breakdown of the fabric of society... ..it left a vacuum that invited people with (anti) agendas a wide path to come in sow the seeds of current events unfolding today.....

nidieunimaitre Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 When a society refuses to change, it will burst. That is what happened in the western world, and Thailand is now making the same mistakes. Blame the ones in power, not those who want changes. 1
elviajero Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Best response to this: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." Reinhold Niebuhr Except for the God part you and Mr Niebuhr are spot on. 1

kannot Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 I want to change neverdie's avatar- it's so annoying- worse than the mosquitoes, motorbike taxis driving the wrong way up the street, it's on a par with a tuk tuk driver at 5.00 am parked outside your house constantly revving his engine to clear some blockage. Why are people so unkind Jealousy is a terrible thing ND they want to live eternally like your good self
manarak Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Farangs have been trained to do it, and I don't mean training in the positive way of acquiring a skill, I mean trained like an animal would be trained to automatically perform what its master wants. Personally, I do like some aspects of Asian culture, in particular the sense of who a customer is. You simply don't ask a customer to clean up trash. trained ....really? I walked out and dumped my tray and took a look at all the people walking around looking for a clean table to sit at. Someone was at my table in a second because I took a second and dumped my tray. I am sure that person was happy to get and not have to stand around waiting for someone, who was not seen, to clean a table.McDs is about cheap fast food, hardly a sitdown restrurant where people take your order. It's about serving yourself and cutting costs. Also, what's so difficult about dumping a tray, it takes a second. "About serving yourself and cutting costs" Yes, that's why there is a job problem in Europe, and also the reason why everything is so expensive over there and the reason why there is no service anywhere and streets are dead and empty. Not an inspiring model if you ask me. And in Thailand, McD is neither cheap nor fast... Yes we have been trained to do it. Most of us were taught to have a sense of pride, not to leave rubbish all over the place, use a bin were provided. Are you one of these people who say farang deserve to get a 2000 baht fine for dropping rubbish but its ok for Thai to do so ? That's totally different, because the street is a public place, not a private business serving customers on its premises. I approve fining people of all nationalities for littering.

In my previous life my job was to get things done. No whining accepted, get things done or be replaced. I left physically and mentally exhausted. Now it's other people turn to care. How could it be considered Thai bashing ? In fact I was even recently accused of being an "apologist" ... U god damn Thai bashing apologist you........
