24 Hour overstay

Featured Replies

I'm on a 30 day tourist visa but made a mistake on booking my return flight by a day which means I will overstay by 24 hours.

What can I expect to happen at the airport when I leave?

A small stamp in your passport showing the overstay.

And, possibly, a 500 Bht fine !

24 hours or less will not be fined.

All depends what side of 24 hours he is.

I assumed (wrongly it seems) that a day was the first 24 hours but a day finishes at midnight so 1am is another day.

That is 'day 2' even though I would have been in the country less than 24 hours.

Does this make sense?

<script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

The day you arrive in Thailand is counted as "Day One" ! smile.png

Makes sense if thought about !

Two days would be 1,000 Baht fine. 500 a day.

^ as above 1,000baht fine & overstay stamp .

If you went through immigration before midnight then you would avoid the 2 day scenario & fine ...

No real headache & easy enough sort out at airport & generally you will see others doing paperwork & paying at desk behind the immigrations counters. Do alllow a little more time at airport although it looks quick process if staff wonder off or tied up with odd scenario it could eat some time.

Being a tourist & only 2 days they won't care or give you any hassle, could be different if got stopped by police/army at a road checkpoint though but reasonably unlikely that happen .

If just 1 day it super simple & they just scribble on last exit stamp & you on your way with no fine.
