I have an RV back in the states....all the comforts of home....just change your scenery when you like....explore a place/area/state for a few days or a month.....when I was playing ball would spend an extra week before or after and see the sights....a few of us did this so always had friends and social on tap if wanted...a great way to explore if it appeals to you...just had to fill the fridge and go - all else clothes, etc. waiting.....

Had a similar thing in Aussie,it was a detachable unit that fitted on too the back of my ute[pick up],could sleep four [well me and my 4 kids],cooker, gas fridge, was wonderfull, but i don't think this could be classed as a caravan.

In Thailand or SEA

five star resorts all the way

Cruise ships...no way, spend my working life at sea and get paid for it, so not paying for the "privilege" of sitting on a boat for two weeks at sea, stuff that ...laugh.png

if I am at home then camping/fishing on the cards for me, but Mrs S objects to this for the most part as nowhere to plug in her hair dryer in and not very impressed with a long drop dunney behind a bush...thumbsup.gif

Agree, though i have have limited time on caravan holidays,no doubt some other poster's will enlighten us on this particular form of holidays.

not knocking the caravan or RV thing, but its never really appealed to me in the sense that your packing up all your mod cons from home into a tin can to drive somewhere to sit in field somewhere with all your mod cons and comforts of home..blink.png

Do see your point Soutie,,but it was the warm beer that persuaded me,the gas fridge on my ute back unit was a godsend meant i could spend weeks out in the bush, with things like cheese, ham, and cold beer, and i have done some real extreme camping just the basic's for survival, but as you get older,it tend's too loose it's appeal.

Just a little home away from home.....in many ways an easier and more comfortable way to travel....in one way it's a private way to travel....with everything just the way you want it....as rough or easy as you want it to be.....

Agree, after years of doing it the hard way, this was wonderful for me and my kids, wow, we had some great times,i was sad when i had to sell it,but only lost about $4000,from the buying price which would generally go down as a win.{had it for 2 years]

I like it when my carer takes me the ice cream van for a 99er with sherbet .

Should get your carer to take you mountaineering Kurt, show you how to hang off a rope...thumbsup.gif

I doubt he could push me to even the foot of Scafell Pike in my wheelchair, nevermind messing about with ropes.

It starts with faking a need to leave the country...alone...

Then the excitement builds as I enter a new twilight zone filled with delights...

The time passes way too fast...and then it is back again to Thailand with great memories as I plan my next escape...

The only thing that stops me going camping in this country are the mosquitos.

When we were in Australia we got away camping with the kids as often as possible but in Thailand (just the wife and I now) it's 4 - 5 day road trips in the trusty pickup with a 'no hotel over 1500bht' rule.

Four weeks ago, Chonburi-Chantaburi-bottom of Trat & return.

Two weeks ago, Chonburi-Nakhon Ratchasima-Surin-Ubon-Aranyaprathet-Chonburi.

Next week, Chonburi-Chumpon-Krabi & return.

In the other weeks we spend one night per week in either Pattaya/Jomtien or Bangkok.

going somewhere in a small room, for 5000 baht a night

with bad breadfast and overpriced lunch & dinner ?

for the stinking sea ?

for the pool, same as you have in your moo baan ?

for the enjoyment of taking an overpriced taxi ?
