SRT pays Bt8.5m to rape victim's family
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has paid out Bt8.5 million in compensation to the mother of 13-year-old girl who was raped and killed on an overnight train in Prachuap Khiri Khan province last year. The girl's family had asked for Bt15 million, but agreed to the SRT settlement of Bt8.5 million, it was reported on Tuesday.

SRT governor Wutthichat Kalayanamit said the agency would review security on its trains, which included the installation of alarms so passengers could call for urgent help. Its staff would also be stopped from drinking alcohol during work. The girl's mother said she hoped this tragedy would be the last of |its kind.

There going to stop staff from drinking on the job? Who is the idiot that allowed them to drink on the job in the first place? Hell If that would happened to my daughter they would be paying a 1000 times more than they paid plus hell would freeze over before the bodies of the management would be found.

They got off light. Had it been my daughter, I would have owned all the railroad tracks! coffee1.gif

Considering the state of the tracks here, 8.5 M is probably a better deal..................

perhaps "family of rape victim receive 8.5m Baht from SRT" would have been a better sentence structure, I don't really believe that the SRT paid 8.5m so that they could rape the family of the victim - oh the English language can be so complicated .....

Yes, who did allow drinking on the job? I think a few heads need to "roll"! And I don't mean to an in-active post either coffee1.gif

At a rate of 25 baht to the Dollar that makes 340,000 Australian Dollars equivalent.

Things are cheap here but really is this what a 13 year old baby is worth?

How sad things are here in Thailand.

The State Railway should not have negotiated, they should have handed the parents of the murdered and raped child what they asked for and very quickly.

How do you negotiate this situation?

Thais and others talk about Face here in Thailand but the State Railway has Shame Shame and more Shame.

They're going to stop staff from drinking on duty, yet they banned the travelling public from drinking alcohol just a few days after this tragic event happened?? Abnyone with CDF can see something amiss here.
