Criminal Court drops libel suit against Tarit

The Criminal Court today dropped a libel suit filed against the former chief of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) by the former deputy prime minister Suthep Thaugsuban over the construction of police stations nationwide.

The former DSI boss Tarit Pengdit was accused by Suthep of insulting him for giving press interviews implicating him of having interest in the construction projects of 396 police stations between January 21 and February 4 last year.

The court reasoned that since Mr Tarit was giving press interview in his capacity of the DSI chief, it was necessary for an authorised person to implicate Suthep as he also was in charge of the Royal Thai Police.

Tarit’s interview was also a report of the progress of the construction project, the court reasoned and later dropped the case.

This follows the defamation lawsuit that was also thrown out at the end of January this year.

It's always amusing to watch one massive cheat/liar/thief accuse another massive cheat/liar/thief with things like defamation and libel ... kids in the schoolyard as always here.

This is one piece of slim I'd like to see in court and locked up

what about the land scandal concerning his resorts built on a national park, wasn't there a conviction recently of someone found guilty of the same thing, how did Tarit get away with it

So Tarit said Suthep has interest in the Police station construction, if the court dismissed the deffamation that mean there is evidence or at least leads that Suthep has an interest in Police station constructions, so maybe Suthep is corrupted after all...maybe the land in Phuket, the palm oil scandal and the fact that even his own camp said he is corrupted can ring a bell to some army top notch to go have a look...i mean for reconcilliation of course...not that suthep is corrupted...he can't be, he is a beacon of justice in Thailand, right? right?...or not?

There are lots of reasons why the worm Tarit should spend the rest of his life in prison for what he did and this is not one of them.

'I was only obeying orders' is no excuse : a man must have a conscience.

The recent land encroachment conviction was of a former Democrat MP and he still has appeals; his case is more than ten years old. Tarit's encroachment was discovered only last year so you should be reading of his conviction in another nine years. The courts for wealthy/connected individuals are clogged (intentionally?) but common people get justice meted out to them fairly rapidly. The weasel, Tarit, was a member, with Suthep, of CRES under the Abhisit government tasked with ending the 2010 mob protest in Bangkok who, with the change of government, changed his colors and became head of the DSI for the Yingluck government where he prosecuted Abhisit for his measures to put down the 2010 protests. Conflict of interest, much?

One of the main problems in getting justice in Thailand is that everyone in power came to power through connections. These connections are insidious because sometimes they lead to unexpected/hidden people who, on the public face of it, prefer to keep the connection secret but work behind the scenes to sabotage/influence investigations/prosecutions of their secret allies. The words, "tangled web", come to mind.

Certainly don't agree with this ruling, but one must respect the law.

One can be assured there will not be anyone burning effigies of the judges, throwing blood at the front of the court house or throwing sh*t at the gates (even if martial law was lifted).

Those days hopefully are long past.
