BANGKOK: -- Phra Dhammachayo has never touched any of the 15 cheques issued by the former chairman of Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative Mr Supachai Srisupa-aksorn to Wat Dhammakaya.

The above statement was made by Phra Maha Boonchai Charutatto, the financial director of Wat Dhammakaya, on behalf of Phra Dhammachayo in his testimony to officials of the Department of Special Investigation on Thursday.

PhraDhammachayo did not show up to testify but assigned Phra Maha Boonchai and Mr Samphan Sermcheep, his private lawyer, to meet with the DSI officials.

Mr Samphan told the media that Phra Maha Boonchai handled all the cheques given to the temple or to Phra Dhammachayo by Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative and had never actually seen any of the cheques.

He said that even if Phra Dhammachayo showed up he would not be able to answer any questions about the cheques anyway because he knew nothing about them.

The lawyer said he would consult the DSI officialss about the possibility of not requiring Phra Dhammachayo to testify because he had nothing to do with all the cheques.

BANGKOK: -- WAT DHAMMAKAYA abbot Phra Dhammachayo yesterday sent as his representative a monk in charge of finance to answer questions from the Department of Special Investigation, as he was suffering from chronic illness.

The DSI is seeking explanation about 15 cheques worth Bt875 million allegedly received from Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative's former chairman, Supachai Srisupa-aksorn.

The DSI investigators and the public prosecutor were to discuss whether to summon the abbot again at today's meeting.

Phra Maha Boonchai Jaruthatto, the finance and accounting director at Wat Dhammakaya, told Pol Lt-Colonel Pakorn Suchivakul, who heads the DSI investigation team, that the temple only received 13 cheques - seven worth Bt120 million in Phra Dhammachayo's name an six others in the temple's name. He insisted the temple had no knowledge of two other cheques that were in Phra Dhammachayo's name, and he did not get that money. He said anybody could have cashed them because donation cheques allow the bearer to get the cash.

Phra Maha Boonchai said the Bt120 million was deposited in the foundation's accounts and spent on construction of religious places. He said the abbot didn't know or check on the spending of donation money, as it was the responsibility of Phra Maha Boonchai, who would bring a money withdrawal form for the abbot to sign and would deposit it according to the foundation's system.

What a sad concept: building temples. No better ways to use donations?!?

No checks should be for "cash". Instead, "for deposit only" when they take AML laws seriously.

So there it is folks! All you have to do is say you don't know anything about what you are charged with and you don't have to show up. Make sure and post if that works out for you.

Standard procedure worldwide. Everyone signs a blank withdrawal form from their bank account without questioning the purpose of the wihdrawal. Lies, lies and more lies.

"as he was suffering from chronic illness" That wouldn't be mental stress through having to lie so much....would it?

First and foremost, impossible that the head abbot of such huge size and fame 'doesn't know' when

someone drop hundreds of millions of baht in ' donations'

secondly, knows or doesn't know, he's the boss there and should assume all responsibilities

to all major events going on at the temple and thus has to fall on his sward.....

He knows exactly who makes big donations to him or the Wat. The masses are kept away from him. It is only the "special" few that get to met him in person, attend classes with him or even more rare attend retreats with him. The followers have clear ranking based on the size of the donations and he knows it.

Another lying, cheating, thief ... knows nothing, but happy to spend the cash ... wherever it comes from, no questions asked.

A fine example of virtue, honesty, and morality for the Thai's to look up to, admire and emulate.

No. It's the same illness the Red Bull heir is suffering from: 'Allergy to being prosecuted in the legal system'. Too bad it's not a terminal disease.

I thought monks weren't supposed to lie. There is no way this power-hungry monk didn't know about the checks; especially as they amounted to millions of Dollars/Euro. The problem when people think they are so smart because of their success is that they begin to think the rest of us are fools. Tell a lie, make it big enough, tell it enough times, and people will believe it - A. Hitler (Phra Dhammachayo's hero)

just go and arrest this crook and stop bowing to all this BS fabricated from behind a cloak of reverence

send round a doctor to examine him, if he is deemed fit throw him in the back of a police pickup in handcuffs and get his bony a$$ to an interview room - this circus has gone on long enough

and start auditing every wat in the country as it's starting to look like a huge money laundering organisation being used by crooks and skumbags throughout Thailand to hide and move huge sums of money
