thai thift shops?

Featured Replies

seen a few really good ones on the buses around town bit never really had a good look at one.

They seem to have really cheap nice shorts and trouser for peanuts.

What is the name of these places in thai please ?

They are usually called "Japan Shops". There is a fairly large one on Pridi (Soi) 3 in Phra Khanong off Sukhumvit 71, about a 5 minute walk from the Phra Khanong BTS.

Directions from BTS: Exit # 3, at street, walk in the direction of traffic to 1st left, Soi 69, take first right off '69. (Pridi-3) Larger shop on right side, about 100 meters or so. Smaller shop on left side.

Asking prices seem pretty high actually, close to retail but they do bargain.

I see a lot of used clothing vendors in older neighborhood shopping malls like the HuaMark Mall on Rhamkhamheng Rd and Ban Kapi Mall near Lat Prow..

I was in Rayong a few months ago and we went to a second hand market. I , being on the large xx l scale I was overjoyed to find used t shirts from the states bought three affliction brand t shirts for 500 baht....in thestates each shirt would cost about 40 bucks. Bought shorts for 150 a pair....quality brands.....best to get to them early and they dont run everyday.

The weekend meeting markets, are a nice way to waste time.. somewhat like JJ.. I enjoy looking at the T-shirts from different countries or states in the US.

Next come hats, baseball caps, the Japanese writing are most popular..

I even found a t-shirt from my university in CA... what a shock.. Go Spartans..

Any located in Chiang Mai especially the XXL and XXXL shorts and tops. American labels would be a bonus. I miss Goodwill and Valu Village.

It's not only about the price. Finding genuine, 100% cotton clothing in Thailand is difficult. Even expensive shirts in "legitimate" retailers like Robinsons are often mislabeled. The shirts from I find on "used" racks marked 100% cotton that come from the US and Europe generally are what they are marked..

Also, larger sizes are difficult to buy as well. Sizes in Thailand can run up to 2 sizes small from what is marked and retailers often charge a premium for XL and larger sizes. There is usually a decent selection of XX sizes from used clothing sellers.

I dress for comfort, especially here in the tropics. I know who I am so I don't need to pay B1000+ for a shirt to reinforce my ego.

I don't have to go back to my own country I am in my country

and I wear second hand clothes bought in the Salvos shop

nothing wrong with it some people just buy new clothes and

after a few weeks they get sick of them and give them away

Its not about saving money. What if you found a pair of vintage levi 501's......I found a few pairs and hey there worth a boatload of money........let me guess your a no nonsense polyester man.

Wow, vintage levi 501. In the Levi shop in Royal garden they sell them new every day, and you know what, they are still the same as 50 years ago.

This guy also wears second hand clothes, not sure though if his jeans are vintage.

Taking it to an extreme but if somebody offered you a used second hand vehicle and it was ,say, it was a 1935 Bentley , you would turn it down because it was not new. You really have adopted Hi-so Thainess .

I personally consider quality rather than whether it is brand new more important. Style over fashion . substance over flashiness , <deleted>

The last time somebody offered me a quality second hand used Billy Boy xl....but I could resist the temptation...
