Possibly, someone had the same problem. In short: Have no stomach problems, unless I drink alcohol (even modest amounts like 1 bottle of beer). This results in upper stomach pain. Antiacid medication does not help.

Interestingly enough, when I lay down, the pain in the upper stomach goes away after 5 minutes ! ???????????

Thx & cheers.

I'd be asking a doctor for real advice. Not a forum mate.

+1 So many possibilities for your vague symptoms.

My brother in law had similar upper tract discomfort along with other symptoms. Started off not that serious but in less than a month, he was in a lot of pain and could not eat.

Turned out to be a "Hiatal Hernia"...his stomach had literally penetrated into his diaphram and twisted out of shape making proper food digestion impossible.

He was lucky, emergency surgery corrected it but it easily could have killed him.

Sounds like gastritis or ulcer. You need to be tested for heliobacter and treated if present. See a GI specialist and in the meantime do not drink.

Looked at Wipikedia under "Gastritis". The description there, fits my symptoms to a 100 %. Since I have this condition for 10 years, I strongly suspect, that the Helicopter Bacteria is to blame (HELICOBACTER PYLORI).

Years ago, I was told that the test for the Helicopter thing is cumbersome, expensive and not necessarily conclusive. They basically told me to shut up and take my medicine. The annual Endoscopy showed always "inflammation of stomach-lining", but apparently they never discovered any Helicopters hovering in my stomach. smile.png

Question: These days, can a test be done in a Thai-State-Hospital, or only in a private "World-Class" Hospital in BKK ?

Thanks all, yes you too Sheryl.

Cheers.

There are 2 ways to test for heliobacter:

1. Gastroscopy (which also allows them to directly vusialize the esophagus, stomach and duodenum)

2. Urease breath test

The second one is less invasive and less expensive but will only test for heliobacter and not allow detection/visualization of anything else.

As you have has annual endoscopies they should have tested for heliobacter at that time and it should be on the report.

While I imagine a Thai govt hospital can do a urease breath test, convincing them to do so may be another matter.

If this has been going ion for 10 years I think it would be worth your while to see a good specialist. Dr. Varocha at Bangkok Hopspital is very good, as is Dr. Rungsun at Samitivej.

If you have the results of your last endoscopy, bring it along with you. And go to the appointment on an empty stomach (by at least 6 hours) as urease breath tests has to be done fasting.

I had exactly the same problem, first sip of alcohol, massive pain in the stomach.

From a blood test my doctor deduced I had a parasite in my stomach. She gave me some tablets to chew and within 2 days things got better.

I am not saying that this is your problem, just sharing my experience.

Still best to see a doctor.

FWIW I solved all of my gut problems, accidentally, by moving out of a condo and buying a house, the daily list of DIY projects is daunting and resulted in a weight loss of 6 kgs, all of this despite regular gym attendance previously. Simply, I conclude that gym exercise alone in older age doesn't provide the muscle stimulation that is needed.
