'Undesirables' rounded-up by Police on Pattaya Beach

beach-11.jpg

PATTAYA: -- On Monday Night, Pattaya Police conducted one of their sweeps of Pattaya Beach, in search of those considered as “undesirable”.

The operation began at 7pm and began at the Dusit curve at the Northern end of Pattaya Beach and finished at the entrance to Walking Street at the Southern end of Pattaya Beach Road.

A total of 50 individuals aged between 18 and 45 were detained and taken to Pattaya Police Station. The group consisted of Ladyboy’s, females suspected of engaging in prostitution and a small number of Thai males who were considered to be loitering with intent to commit crime.

Each detainee was fined the sum of 100 Baht and then sent on their way, presumably to carry on with whatever they were doing before they were picked-up by Police.

Policing 101. Do a round up and fine those detained a massive Bt. 100 for being ' undesirables '. Who decides what an undesirable is other then the BIB at the time ?

Will the PM be giving out ' rewards ' for another excellent piece of police work ?

They've already had their reward: 5000 baht of it.

Hey, isn't Songkhran coming up?

....even more incentive to go rip off some tourists.....

could have at least pee tested them to see how undesirable they actually were

yeah, blood tests and everything

but seriously, 100 baht? I reckon they wouldn't prevent them from being undesirable even if they charged them 1000 baht

I'd be like 100 baht first time, 1000 second time, 2000 third time, fourth time some jail time or make them fight professional muay thai fighters or something.

they could sell some tickets to that.

If they really wanted to clear the hookers from beach road, they should start arresting their customers.

If potential customers were made aware looking for a cheap thrill at the coconut bar could lead to arrest, a few hours at the police station and the possibility of their face being shown in a news story on the internet, there would be less demand. If there was less demand there would be less supply.

Of course this will never happen.

These people simply are not proactive, are they? Always "react" after the lights are turned on. bah.gif

What they don't need is more officers. They need Western or S. Korean trained technicians and pilots who will be supervised on a regular basis by these same folk. Thais teaching Thais is a formula for failure.

A couple of troll posts violating the following rule have been removed:

11) You will not post slurs, degrading or overly negative comments directed towards Thailand, specific locations, Thai institutions such as the judicial or law enforcement system, Thai culture, Thai people or any other group on the basis of race, nationality, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

Amazing. Undesirables are Thai. That's a first and it's about time. Ripping off people, taking their cash, passports, in general, exploiting tourists does not bring money into the country. I'm surprised it took them so long to figure that out.

It's the end of the month...no surprises here. I guess freelancers are not paying all their taxes like all of the other bar owners and workers are laugh.png Are sex workers on the street any less desirable than those working in the bar?

Actually not. If there was less demand, the prices would fall. Basic economics, supply and demand cost curve. And when the prices fall, the demand would pick up again (only more covertly). Naturally, if the prices fall too low, then the supply would decrease (as it wouldn't be worthwhile to offer a cheap thrill for satangs) and if the demand stays constant the prices would rise again.

Oh, what fun...

How to suspect someone of doing something before they've done it? Thought police? Then fine them for looking

as if they 'might' do something in the future. What sort of law is this? What sort of reasoning?

What law is there against being a lady boy?

We don't like the look of you. 100baht.

Governments and their agencies are sometimes so out of touch with reality, it is hard to believe.
