Two Canadian tourists rescued in Krabi sea

Featured Replies

Krabi:- Two Canadian tourists and a Thai speed boat driver were rescued in the Krabi sea after their boat capsized about one nautical mile off the Hang Nak cape Monday.

The accident happened at noon off the coast of Moo 3 village in Tambon Nong Thalay in Krabi’s Mueang district.

A fishing boat, named Kirasak, happened to be nearby and rescued the three who were holding on to the floating capsized boat.

The fishing boat pulled the three from water and contacted the Navy officers at the Hang Nak cape to send a boat to take them ashore.

The two tourists hired the unnamed speedboat, which is about 5-meter-long and one-meter-wide, to tour various islands in the Krabi sea.

The boat was suddenly hit by a two-meter-high wave, causing it to overturn. Luckily, the fishing boat was nearby and saw the incident and rescued the three in time. The speedboat did not have any life vest.

The accident happened just three days after a long-tailed passenger boat overturned in the Krabi sea at 3 pm on Friday.

The boat was transporting five Thai passengers, four of them women, from Koh Hong to Ao Nang beach when strong waves hit the boat, causing its engine to break off. The boat is 2.7-meter-wide and 11.50-meter-long.

Without the engine, the driver, Boonma Ahama, 29, could not control it, and it capsized.

A fishing boat happened to be nearby and rescued the tourists and the boat driver. No one was injured.

The fishing boat also towed the capsized boat ashore.

Marine Police take the three men from the fishing boat back to shore.

KRABI: -- A fishing boat crew had to come to the rescue of two Canadians and one Thai yesterday (March 30) after the speedboat they were on flipped in the sea off Krabi.

At around 12pm, Krabi Marine Police received a call from the Keerasak fishing boat saying they had rescued a sinking speedboat, and those on board, near Koh Dang and Laem Hang Nak in Nogtalay district.

The one Thai and two Canadian nationals on board the speedboat had to be plucked from the sea by the fishing boat crew, and the sinking vessel was taken by the fishing boat back to Naporatthara beach.

The fishing boat captain, Sattaya Sekson, 29, told police that his boat was fishing near Koh Dang when they spotted the speedboat coming in from the direction of Railey Bay when it was flipped out of the water by a big wave.

“We saw three people fall into the sea and they were struggling. Within 15 minutes, 10 of our men had helped to pull them on board our vessel,” said the captain.

The three men from the speeadboat suffered minor injury but all were taken to Krabi Hospital as a precaution.

Police said that the speedboat was coming from Railey Bay heading toward Koh Hong when the rear of the vessel got slammed by a big wave causing the front to lift and flip.

They stated that all passengers from the speedboat were safe, however, they have contacted the owner of the speedboat to come in for questioning. They will also be checking the condition of the boat.

Land sea or air....

Its all a gamble in Thailand!

Even walking on the footpath, where you can that it, is a challenge

Who goes out on a boat with no safety vests

Apparently someone did

Glad I read the whole story. At first I thought they may have been drinking beer and had decided to go ice fishing.

Seriously, glad they made it back.

....one would think that it takes gross incompetence for that to happen the way described....

again gross negligence on the owners of these vessels failing to ensure that life vests were available it must be made mandatory practice for all vessels to be equipped with sufficient life vests.

Who goes out on a boat with no safety vests

two Canadians and one Thai

Yeah! Like the koh chang ferries have life vests stowed in hangers and look like they have been there since the 1972 date stamped on them.....im sure theyll be fine if needed

5 metres long x 1 metre wide!

Sounds like a canoe.

again gross negligence on the owners of these vessels failing to ensure that life vests were available it must be made mandatory practice for all vessels to be equipped with sufficient life vests.

Well in my 20 + years in Thailand I have known a lot of tourist boats to sink, and every time the authority's say they going to have life vest mandatory,....in fact it is for a long time already... ! but just like helmets for motorcycles it is not enforced....

After a sinking some of them have life vests for a week or fourteen days (in the best case) or so and then.........nada...... business as usual...!!!

Did they find Thainess in the Ocean ... ? Cars, boats, bikes, trains, planes all driven by morons clap2.gif
