Popular Post EnglishJohn
Joc , for once in your life stop being negative and spilling your nonsense. This is Pattani where Buddhists are killed every day. Doesn't matter low ranking or not ......he is a Buddhist monk. I understand your feelings against him but please show some sense, as I don't think you lack of it, but you are just trying to be clever. Rubl, Robblok, Costas et al. You want to believe this so badly that you will suspend disbelief. Suthep is as much of a monk as I am. The only reason he is pretending to be a monk is because he was told to do it by the Junta after he had served his purpose of destroying the functioning of government departments. "Go and cool your heels for a while and lay low". What better way to try and garner some sympathy and respect than to become a holy man. Of course those men are his armed guards. There are millions of ordinary Thais who would love to shoot him or worse. I bet he sleeps with guards around him 24/7. So, go on, living in your pretend world. When things start to turn really bad here maybe you could be the farang apologists for the strong men appearing on TV each night. Telling everyone, don't worry about the disappearances of a few people, they're probably in hiding. All good here in Thailand, come and enjoy a holiday in the land of the free. People like you need to learn that spouting rhetoric you made up does not make it true. And unless you have an audience of gullible idiots, everyone sees immediately what you are. You would do yourself a lot more credit if you stopped writing like a semi-literate schoolboy having a tantrum. I'm sure there are millions who would like to shoot him : they are called red-shirts and tend shoot anyone who disagrees with their dirty ambitions. It's called pre-civilisation. Good luck 'when things start to turn seriously bad'. You just justified Martial Law/Article 44 without even realising it.
Fat Haggis
Well according to DJJamie there's 7% of the population that are UDD terrorists which wouod actually make that close to 5,000,000 people who would like to shoot Suthep. Then there are those in the South who would just love to shoot anyone connected to the past present or future Govenments so add amother 1,000,000 onto that. Then there's those who suffered severe financial losses due to his protests that may also like to shoot him, add another couple of thousand onto this. Then there's those who possibly suffered through the palm oil scandals and property development and land purchases where he was involved in. But then again you are coming across like the all knowing oracle with constant derogatory comments about people's literacy standard like you're perfect !! People get banned for less it seems at times.
Popular Post rubl
Would be interesting to know who ordered armed security for a low ranking monk............... Absolutely. Normal practise is a squad of soldiers protecting low ranking monks. Also looks so much better, perception-wise. Shall I inform PM Prayut that a perfect opportunity was missed or will you? As was pointed out, he was not in the region in a religious capacity. He was there for personal profit, shilling his book. Do you think it is appropriate that a monk be engaged in a business venture that detracts from his religious vocation, and demands that the state provide resources to facilitate the distribution of a political tract? This man is the epicentre of corruption in the south. Are you suggesting Phra Suthep demanded the State provide resources to protect him ? Mind you, that would be a good idea as I doubt anyone wants to turn Suthep into a martyr.

That's a big responsibility for a ThaiVisa member. It could change the course of history. BTW: Many movie buffs are not aware that English Bob has a retarded brother. MW72
I would love the see Surin Pitsuwan and Korn Chatikavanij in charge of Thailand!! Thank you JOC. Both of them respectable men. Korn Chatikavanij http://th.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%A3%E0%B8%93%E0%B9%8C_%E0%B8%88%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%95%E0%B8%B4%E0%B8%81%E0%B8%A7%E0%B8%93%E0%B8%B4%E0%B8%8A Surin Pitsuwan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surin_Pitsuwan But both without any history of leadership capabilities. May be in the future one of them will shine and get elected. But for the moment there is no alternative, available. From reading Surin's wiki page I'd say he had more leadership skills in his little finger than any of the clowns in charge just now. Being a general does not mean you have leadership skills. In the army people have to obey or else. Only in battle do leadership skills come to the fore. Not to mention the fact the generals have no clue about the real world. This Surin bloke seems like an all round good bloke. Not easy to tell from a wiki page but he seems to have good real life skills, a good grasp of economics and he even seems to want to make a difference to the whole country including the poor. Thailand really needs someone who can unite the country. Someone who is not in it for himself and someone who has a vision for the future. That would rule out the Monk, the Shins and the Generals but Surin seems to be a good alternative.
diehard60
I read this - ""Local officials worked to prevent any incident, and they dispatched some officers to take care of Phra Suthep," Thani told Manager ASTV. "Phra Suthep was not personally involved in the matter."" And look at the picture and it does not add up.

One is not a Buddhist monk simply because one shaved his head and wears an orange robe. It takes a little more than that.

englishoak
ALL low level monks in the South move about with close protection teams or is it just the ones with stature and money? Personally I don't see a huge issue with this as long as ALL monks are afforded close protection teams in the south although I suspect this is more about whom this monk was. How about they give more protection to high value high media coverage targets. But almost everyone needs to be protected in the South. I don't see a problem here. I would also understand YL who is now a civilian getting protection when she goes there. Bet the red moaners would moan when he had brought his own guards too. But everyone isnt protected only the elite. The problem is if hes a Monk then hes nothing special at all, hes not even Suthep as hes taken another name, supposedly. So heres the question.......... where are the armed guards for real monks ........... or is it that Suthep IS special and not really any monk and just an ex deputy PM in orange clothing acting out an image. If hes a monk he should accept karma and not be concerned with being killed, need or want any guard............. but we all know hes no monk and 100% faking it for his own agenda. I have no idea if he is faking it or not.. I think all religious people are faking it. (atheist myself). But its logical that he gets more protection as an other just as it is logical the same applies for YL if she were to visit the area. If you don't understand that then your not as bright as I think you are. Fact is the government needs to protect people like Suthep and YL and other prominent figures more because if they get hit and killed the effect would be far worse then if I get killed over there. It would be an enormous victory for the terrorists there. Anyone not seeing the bigger picture is either not as bright or just does not want to see it. Plus you must have seen the pics even in this topic of monks and others getting armed escorts over there. It might not be every monk.. but quite a few do get extra protection and its needed.

At that rate, I'll bet there are more than a few ex-police ex- red shirt, ex-Thaksin supporters who wish they had been faster off the running blocks, heading for a temple when their colleagues (with Army overseers) came knocking recently. Tee hee!!! Yes I know some of them were jack ups in one aspect but they had all been VERY naughty children as well, hadn't they?
