Well there you are, now you can tell us why you are so much happier here than living in your home countries.

If its just because its hot here all the time or the fact you can sleep with women 40 or 50 years younger than yourself. Or the fact you can eat and drink for less than 300 baht a day, maybe you cant afford to go back to the home land so are just trying to make the best of what you have.

Divorces are cheap. Wouldnot marry in Canada with their ancient divorce laws in this age of equality. Been married here twice since I retired . Can get out of a bad marriage here for the price of a new car in Canada. No need to loss everything

Certainly hard to live back home moneywise,not to mention the darn rain and cold spells that last forever,and the cold shoulder from the ex so skipped out here making sure she couldn't attack my hidden funds.

Im much happier here as i can moan all day everyday, back in the Uk moaning was only bi weekly, now thanks to my good fortune I can moan incessantly.

The weather, the food, the culture, the people, the experience of living in a completely different part of the world, the challenge of learning a new language and adapting to a new lifestyle, the ease with which one can travel to a whole host of cool places, the fact that people don't take life too seriously, the way things are simpler than they were back where I'm from, the lower cost of living, the craziness of it all, beer with ice outdoors on a warm evening, weekends at the beach etc. etc.

i spend the half the year here and half back home and am equally happy in both. both have pros and cons and both their pleasures and frustrations.

i'm happy. job done.

i like that my kid plays outside with his friends until long after its gone dark. He couldnt do that back where Im from.

It's dirt cheap to live in Bangkok, the food is heavenly, the people are nice (if you don't get too deep) and the women can be an amusing distraction provided you don't take them too seriously.

I'm happy to be in Thailand because I love the late night city vibe; because a BKK commute is like passing through a beauty parade; because on the way down the soi on the back of a motorbike taxi I am reminded how utterly tedious daily life can be back home; so many things we'd be here all day to list them all.

I'm happy to be in Thailand because I love the Leo and plate of delicious inexpensive food whilst melancholy luktung drifts over the paddies into the night; because the love for home truly shines in the countryside; because eating bugs and being eaten by them is almost as much fun as avoiding stepping into the water whilst rat-hunting in the rice fields; because of the morlam sing at the end of the onion harvest; because of the huge Bonfie rockets shot into the clear blue skies; the hundreds of krathong lighting up the lake and lantern lights of love and friendship trailing off to Heaven on a magical night in November.

Happy because I can be

We're avid road trippers and are constantly heading off in one direction or another for a few days or even weeks.

The great thing about Thailand is that it's full of surprises - there's always something different or unusual to see or experience. It's the people you come across, the food you eat, the places you visit, the things that amaze you or make your jaw drop, the things you never knew existed (or, in some cases didn't know were even possible lol).

We do have some favourites but even those places we can go to many times without ever having to see or do exactly the same things twice.

We have lived (ie for extended periods) in Phuket twice, Bangkok three times and now Chonburi, have worked, not worked and retired, and have thoroughly enjoyed our time in all of them. Sometimes you have to make yourself fit rather than expecting it to fit you ... no sense whinging - that's all part of it. The fun and excitement part of it doesn't always just land in your lap.

One down side is that. as hard as we try to accept that our kids, now both in their twenties, have their own lives in Australia we miss them terribly as we have always been a very close family. For that reason, we're considering spending about four months of each year 'back home' - but our lives in Thailand will always be just as happy as they are there.
