Defence Dept Min: Section 44 only imposed to maintain situation

BANGKOK, 2 April 2015 (NNT) – The Deputy Minister of Defence stated that Section 44's imposition is only to maintain peace and order in the country, while he believes the lifted martial law will create a better understanding of Thailand's situation to the international community.

The Deputy Minister of Defence and the Secretary-General of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) Gen Udomdej Sitabutr spoke regarding the implementation of new laws from Section 44 of the interim constitution, after lifting the martial law, saying that the special laws are required to maintain social peace and order, and are needed to execute specific immediate responses, especially on public safety, that is still recovering.

He has said that the public should not worry about the enforcement of Section 44, and the lifting of the martial law will improve the economy and reduce pressure from foreign countries who might be concerned about the political situation in Thailand.

Section 44 only imposed to maintain the situation in which human rights are suppressed, all dissent crushed, and the junta can sit securely in power for as long as it likes.

With all due respect, Mr. Deputy Minister of Defense, you might get a few translations of the news being reported in other countries today. Just to get some sense of how other countries perceive events in Thailand.

Nobody is buying this.

In fact, most analysts see this as a clear turn to something worse than martial law.

Lots more talk of the bad things Prayuth is going to do and yet he still has not done a single one of them.

He has been quite open that Martial Law was to contain terrorists and every single action he has taken using it up to now supports his statement.

When any of these wishful fairy tales come to pass, I will join in the condemnation of the Junta - but at this point they have behaved entirely properly. A fact I think some people really don't like after the example we got from Pheu-Thai ....

Calling for elections is terrorism?

You'll get your election and you won't get your terrorism.

That doesn't answer the question. Do you consider the people who were detained without charge for 'attitude adjustment' after publicly calling for elections to be terrorists?

While we're on the subject, do you consider Suthep's thugs who used violence and intimidation to disrupt an election to be terrorists?

There are currently around 700 people in prison or facing military court since the coup.

Most of them are old people over 50 who would not heard a fly.

Another large group are young university students with little understanding of the underlying problems that Prayut speaks of. Still they were extremely brave to stand up for what they believe in and the love of their country. I shall just mention again. The 58 year old given 25 years for writing on Facebook.

Essentially a life sentence with his age. His family were not permitted to attend his hearing.

He is an engineer and never held a gun at anyone.

The 62 year old man that wrote graffiti on a wall.

15 years. His wife broke down and cried. But he stood tall and excepted his punishment like a true hero for thailand.

The two university students that received 2 years for acting in a play in 2013, when it was not thought illegal or offensive at the time. They will not finish their studies. They will not grow in a healthy way contribute to the country that they love.

Where are their guns?

Where are their bombs?

Are they terrorists?

These are the few that we have heard about. There are many more that don't even make the news.

I cannot understand why why why?

The Thai hurt thai.

Thai fight thai.

Thai kill thai.

Whoever is in power, please take care of your own people.

The government of mr p has been trying to get foreign govts to better understand Thailands situation. Replacing Martial law with a more virulent form of administration will NOT achieve that objective.
