Possum, Possum, Possum slow down!!

You are putting down almost every great songster of the past 80 years. Frank Sinatra - what a great voice, Stevie Wonder also, ad infinium.

You started this thread and then went on about how the people were dressed. Of course they were dressed like that, that was the fashion then. And i am sure those are not bananas....

Billy Joel - She's always a woman to me is one of the most beautiful songs on this Planet.

To be honest, i think the Beatles screeched alot, even though we have sung their songs for decades.

Look at Luke Kelly of the Dubliners, or rotten teeth of the Pogues. They couldn't sing - but they got their point across in their lyrics and presence.

And if you start on my Bruce.....angry.gif

Hi Patsycat, I never said Sinatra couldn't sing, I said that I did not like his singing voice, and I don't. I don't remember him in his heyday, but to say I am putting down every great songster of the past 80 years is not true, there are other singers of Sinatras time that I do like, ie Dean Martin, Perry Como. Did you actually listen to Stevie Wonder on my first post? There is no melody to the song, and his voice is awful. Just my opinion.

Billy Joel, I said I liked 'Uptown Girl', But have not heard 'She's Always a Woman to Me'.

The Beatles, I do agree with you a bit there. They were just average musicians and singers, just like most British groups at that time, though Lennon and McCartney did write some great songs, but also some rubbish.

I see where you are coming from with the Dubliners and the Pogues, But Steve Earle is brilliant. Did he not play with the Pogues?

As for Bruce, if you mean Bruce Springsteen, you are not going to believe this, but I have not heard him sing. After I left the Memphis Showband back in Scotland, I was always playing in American Country Music bands, doing stuff like George Jones, Merle Haggard, Charley Pride, Randy Travis, Vince Gill etc etc etc. Then up till I came to live here in Thailand, I went on to the keyboards, although I also doubled on bass guitar and vocals, playing Irish stuff, like the Clancy Brothers, the Waterboys, and even some rebel songs, not forgetting Steve Earle.

Very nice to debate with you Patsycat, we do have some things in common musically.

  • Your first example of a bad musician is Stevie Wonder? Instant topic-fail.

  • What can I say, I own the 7 inch, I like this song and it worked on the dancefloor when dj-ing. Maybe you like Bill Cosby´s take on this one better, but he is more talking than singing. Have this as

Never watched that show, wonder what a young Elton John, Stevie Wonder or Michael Jackson would have sounded on that.

You have appalling taste, it seems.

If you enjoyed listening to my first post, then I would say the same to you, I like to hear a good melody, and a singing voice with a good voice range like Elvis, George Jones, and Roy Orbison.

Certainly not Stevie Wonder, although I do accept he is a good musician. Anyway, some of us have good musical taste and some don't.

You would come into the latter, but never mind, each to his own.

What about the best duet in the world

Yes Patsycat, I agree with you there, Simon and Garfunkel were brilliant, the best male duet, yes, they were one of the best along with the Everly Brothers.

I must say I like some of Stevie Wonder´s early stuff. So many musicians I dislike, but first of all Bono/U2 and Sting springs to my mind.

Yes, Sting was awful, did you really think my first post with Stevie Wonder was good????

Maybe you like Bill Cosby´s take on this one better, but he is more talking than singing. Have this as a 7 inch as well, but prefer Wonder´s original.

Go into the Ladies Forum and look at the thread For Sheryl - there you shall see for pages and pages of Bruce Springsteen love and admiration. Culminating in my seeing him in concert on the 4th of July 2013!! At the age of 50, when i had the chance to see him so many times. But that concert was only 4 bus stops away from where i live!!

I agree, we all have our musical likes and dislikes. And it's difficult to make one person like the music of another.

OK thanks Patsycat, my topic was about the worst singers, that's why I was criticising some singers.

We do agree on some things about music, and you certainly have a good taste. Simon and Garfunkel? yes.
