Extension of Green Line Approved by MRTA

Featured Replies

The Green Line from Mor Chit has been approved for an extension. The extension will have the Mor Chit line run to Saphan Mai and Khu Kot. The approval came on Friday from the MRTA (Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand). Four contracts, with a combined worth of 27.7 billion baht, have been signed for the expansion project.

A 12-kilometer route running from Saphan Mai to Mor Chit is valued at 15.26 billion baht and will be constructed by the Italian-Thai Development Plc.

Tracks that run from Khu Kot to Saphan Mai are estimated at 6.6 billion baht and will be constructed by the UN-SH-CH venture. The track is expected to be 7.5km in length.

A park-and-ride building and a track will be built by the STEC-AS Joint Venture. Both of these projects are valued at 4 billion baht and 2.8 billion baht respectively.

All construction will begin in June with a scheduled completion date of 2020. In total, the projects will add 16 new train stations and include a BTS system extension of 19km.

The goal of the expansion is to help reduce traffic in the area and better serve residents in suburban areas. Traveling across the cities of Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan will be easier as a result.
