Rahan Arshad, 36, was arrested Wednesday at the Padang Basar checkpoint on southern Thailand's border with Malaysia. Immigration police escorted him on a flight to Bangkok, and he was held overnight at the immigration police bureau. "He went out (of Thailand) and then came back in to renew his visa," a senior police official said, speaking on condition of anonymity due to policy. An investigator who interviewed Arshad said he'd left Thailand on Sunday because his visa was due to expire, then spent a few days in Kuala Lumpur before re-entering about 10:30 a.m. (0330 GMT) Wednesday. British police discovered the four bodies on Aug. 20 at the Arshad home in Cheadle Hulme in Greater Manchester. The victims had been dead for some time, police said. Post-mortem examinations determined that Uzma Rahan, 32, and her three children — Adam, 11, Abbas, 8, and Henne, 6 — died of massive head injuries. Thai police found that Arshad had landed at Bangkok's international airport on July 30. When British authorities contacted Thailand about their search for him, Thailand entered his information into the immigration police computer network, the senior official said. "We then tracked him through the computer system. The information showed that he departed there, so we prepared to arrest him," he said. The investigator said Arshad had come as a tourist and spent time in Bangkok, as well as the resort town of Hua Hin and the southern island of Phuket. The investigator spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak with media. Arshad was deported from Bangkok and arrived in England on Friday morning. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a 36-year-old man had been arrested at London's Heathrow Airport after arriving from Thailand. British police investigating the killings on Aug. 23 arrested two suspects, identified only as a 35-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man. Obviously he was not too smart travelling on his own ID. His Malaysian sojourn reveals glaring loopholes in Interpol's tracking system. So now he'll spend at least the next 10 years at the British taxpayer's expense, currently around £400 a day. Exactly what I was thinking Additionally, because guest house & hotel operators have to report the ID & passport number of all foreign guests (to Immigration) in the first 24 hours of their stay - why wasn't he picked up in Hua Hin or Phuket after UK Police put the alert out? A case of "mai pen rai" until it had enough media attention on the man-hunt? Followed by an arrest and back-slapping all round? Cynical? Moi? Nah - just accurate observation. According to a recent BBC study, 8.5 million Brits live out of the UK and 350,000 leave annually. A survey estimated that 13% of the British population wishes to leave. Odd how those who have themselves left continue to harbour the delusion that life there is so comfortable and desirable. Having myself lived for a few years on the Indian subcontinent, I can assure you that life there (and in many other places where Indians and Pakistanis live around the world) is quite comfortable for many people, especially when compared to the slums in English urban areas. The fact that you have already decided this man is guilty and that he is an economic peer of the most impoverished citizens of India says a great deal about you. I'm sure if he were a pale white Englishman, there would be all sorts of demands that he be considered innocent until proven guilty and pronouncements that there was some conspiracy on the part of the Thai authorities. Odd too that the super British police allowed him to escape the UK and had no idea where he was until the Thai authorities did their job for them. As we know, the immigration blacklist was not updated for the last 3 years ! Can you imagine something like that ? You add people to a list but no one cares about the execution of this since the list is outdated, people who should have been removed are still on the list and new people can still enter the kingdom... I always said that the country is like some Mickey Mouse community because of the lack of things like good justice, good working immigration department, the way that tourists are treated (walking ATM machines) will not make the country more appealing as we all can see in the numbers of tourists visiting the country. If nothing changes, the country will never come out of its 3rd world status, too bad for the people that are honest (I know, very, veryyyyyy few but ok...) I seem to recall that it was a couple of days before the police publically reported that his car was found and he'd left for Bangkok. Allowing for the reality of cross border communications he would only have appeared on any watch list over the last week or so. It seems to me that the Thai side was organised on this one. This dumb ass was all over the news papers so he could have known that the police was tracking him through the immigration system. His details and photo are given to the Thai authorities by Interpol. So then Arshad romps blatently around Thailand for a month on his own passport, presumably registering in all the hotels under his own name, without arousing any suspicion or interest at all. And then, when his visa stamp is running out, HE DOES A BORDER RUN AND RETURNS. He doesn't think "Phew! That was lucky! I got away!" He doesn't just do a border run, but he has a mooch around Kuala Lumpur (I wonder if he applied for a tourist visa as well?) and then he is witless enough to return via the exact same border post as he left. And the amazing new hi-tech Thai computerised immigration computer system fails to ring any bells for several days. Then at last it goes PING and a bunch of Thai officials have egg on their faces so decide to say nothing about it to anyone. But then he is stupid enough to come back to the same place to re-enter Thailand. Now - are all the border posts throughout the Kingdom on high alert? Nope. All the Thai authorities are able to do is to hope he comes back the same way that he left. And the dopey bu**er does just that. Another great success for the effective and esteemed Thai authorities in their unending quest against evil. What a collection of bumbling halfwits all round! Good point, if I had just clubbed my family to death and was preparing to go on the run I would definitely check the latest travel advice on the British Embassy in Bangkok's website. He may be a muslim, but at least he is from the same planet as the rest of us. What are you thinking? Clearly people on your planet are buddhist or why else are you in Thailand? This guy may have missed out on the whole thing and came to Thailand for a simple holiday, which would explain his behaviour. I guess we will find out as the case moves on...
