Trang declares 10 districts disaster zones

BANGKOK, 5 April 2015 (NNT) - 10 districts in the southern province of Trang have been declared disaster zones due to drought. More than 185,600 people do not have sufficient water for consumption.

Chief of the provincial disaster prevention and mitigation in Trang Somkiat Intharakham said Trang was one in 30 drought-ridden provinces and more than 185,600 people were now affected by drought. The province had declared ten districts disaster zones, said Mr. Somkiat.

A village headman in Kantang district said there were only two water sources left in Libong island. The district had to impose water cutbacks and make sure that groundwater wells did not dry up, he added.

The village headman called on relevant government units to dredge a large reservoir on the island so that it could store more water for people there.

Thailand - hub of disaster zones... coffee1.gif

Long, dry periods and droughts are nothing new in Thailand, plus the signs of a very long and dry high season where written all over it - yet nothing was done, no preparation, ab so f....g lutely nothing! Islands could survive on desalination plants instead of depleting all the groundwater, eventually lowering the islands' elevation above sea level year by year. Well, planning (and acting) ahead has never been and most likely never will be in that simple-structured mindset called "Thainess". sad.png

Maybe they should ask the Greeks how to run their economy.
