Phuket police hunt for hit and run minivan driver

The motorcycle was found in a ditch, a body was found nearby.

PHUKET: -- Police are looking for the driver of a minivan who had a collision with a motorcycle last night (April 7) killing the driver, a man from Nakorn Sri Thamarat.

At 9:20pm, Thalang police were called to the scene of an accident involving a minivan and motorcycle on Sri Soonthon Rd.

Police arrived at the scene with Kusolharm rescue workers to find a wrecked Honda Click in a ditch. Nearby was the body of man with severe head and facial injuries.

A bronze Toyota minivan with the wording Wilaiwan Limpanit on the back was about 80-100 metres away.

The minivan had damage to its front and the windscreen was broken.

The van driver had fled the scene by the time police had arrived.

Police revealed that the victim was named Pornsit Rattanaburi, 23, from Nakorn Sri Thammarat.

Police questioned some people at the scene but they said they had come out of their homes after hearing a loud crash and had not witnessed the accident.

Police took the minivan to Thalang police station and are now looking the driver.

The body of Mr Limpanit was taken to Thalang Hospital.

How many Nakorn Sri Thammarat natives are there here on Phuket. Seems every second death or crime is committed by someone from there.

Anyway, rip and the driver just ran away to work out how much compensation your family will receive. Won't be much but baht is justice in Thailand.

1. they run to avoid a beat up (or worse) by a mob;

2. they are over the legal limit on alcohol or are on any other illegal substance.

Severe head and facial injuries. Ok not his fault that he was left to die but if he had a crash hat on .....................How many young Thais would be alive today if they spent a few hundred Baht on a half decent lid ?

Not so sure it's just a Thai thing. Must be in many Asian countries. I remember many many moons ago taking my Indonesian driving test and I was quite surprised with the written question about what to do in the event of an accident. The correct answer was to drive away and report to the nearest police station within 24 hours. I researched this at the time (no internet back in them dark days) and discovered a number of cases where local on the spot justice was dispensed, such as taking a life for a life. Just saying ....

Not condoning the driver of the van, but I have little sympathy for those on motorcycles who insist on ignoring the law and refuse to wear a helmet. But if they want to put their life in jeopardy it is up to them. They harm no-one but themselves. Assuming he wasn't wearing a helmet of course, but there's a 10-1 chance he wasn't. I know it isn't comfortable, not least because of the heat, but they also have a law in Indonesia which demands they wear a helmet. In my experience, over 95 percent do, although it's hot there too and because it's the law and because it is ENFORCED and because it makes sense.

RIP. Victim could have been alive for a while after accident, first aid maybe could have saved his life, but driver runs away because it's easy. Until they appropriately punish all run away drivers, it will keep on happening. And so much for Thainess and Buddhism....

Fact is nearly anybody in any country will do all they can to avoid trouble/legal hassles IF they are confident they can get away with it. and that same premise goes with issue of getting away with corruption..in all countries.

Foreigners in Thailand dont seem to be any shining light of glory either, since many posts on this website reccomend "doing a runner" as not to get the blame laid on them, or getting extorted by coppers.

One post i read on here many moons ago actually reccomended: If you should happen to run somebody over here, be sure to reverse over them and make sure the job is done.

Before you add a Thai bashing post DO keep in mind: the rationale of both Thai and farang are not all that different in certain scenarios.

you are a quality person, i guess everybody in your home country never do anything wrong, but in thailand everybody do wrong?

there are good and bad pepole in every country, stop thai bashing.
