Chinese Civil Aviation Admin to inspect Thailand's safety standards

BANGKOK, 14 April 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Transport has revealed that the Chinese Civil Aviation Administration will be visiting Thailand to inspect the Kingdom’s aviation safety standards.

Deputy Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said the Civil Aviation Administration of China will be traveling to Thailand in the beginning of May to inspect the Kingdom’s safety policies. He said that he was confident that the country would fare well in the inspection.

The Deputy Transport Minister spoke of the progress made by the Kingdom to update the country’s aviation policies, after a recent safety audit by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) reported Significant Safety Concerns (SSC) with the Thai Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).

The report has triggered restrictions on Thai-registered airlines by many ICAO member countries. All Thai airlines have been instructed to vigorously address outstanding SSCs.

Mr. Arkhom revealed that the DCA will periodically submit a progress report to the ICAO up until the country’s deadline of June 2. He admitted that it is unlikely Thailand would be able to fix all its issues in time. However, submitting progress reports would demonstrate the country’s commitment to improving its safety standards.

You have to admire these spiffs, they bounce from one debacle to another, like a ball bouncing off a wall, you never seem to see Thai authorities asking for advice from say UK , Greenland , France or India, it has to be from some country that in real terms you wouldn't speak to them if you didn't have to and they wonder why people hold them in contempt, anyroad it still wont fix the problem, nothing is easy fixed in the aviation industry, anyway I would be surprised if Thailand didn't try all sorts of short cuts and all kind of media announcements, until they are black banned .Verdict: business as usual. bah.gif

India?

Funnily enough, Indian airlines had problems last year, with a ban on extra flights to the USA, due to weaknesses with their own regulatory authority.

Just like Thailand now has.

And last month the restrictions were removed, after corrective-action had been taken, and the Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation beefed-up.

So yes, perhaps India has some lessons, for the Thai DCA.

I'm pretty sure they didn't ASK the Chinese to come. More likely they are coming to ensure continued flights between the countries in a pro active way, unlike Japan who are just banning flights!
