Lawn Bowls in Chiang Mai

Several years ago there was a post on Thaivisa forum regarding lawn bowls in Chiang Mai. I am pleased to report that there is now an enthusiastic group of expat and Thai retirees playing lawn bowls in Chiang Mai on a regular basis. They usually play a round robin pairs match on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We are all beginners so come along and try your hand. Our group's aim is to foster camaraderie and have fun. Bowls and lessons are provided free. For more information PM poster.

The bowling green is at Tong Kwai village near the Chiang Mai Night Safari Park. The Lawn Bowls Group has a website and I hope I am allowed to provide this information. The group is not a commercial undertaking, just a group of retirees having a good time bowling. There is a google map of the location on the website. Please give me a call at 0877280465 if you need any further information. Thank you for your interest.

This new facility is really good, highly recommended. Its an all weather artificial type facility, similar to indoor all weather bowls centres I have attended in the UK. I was made very welcome, and having recently sustained a finger injury which makes it difficult to grip a golf club, Lawn Bowls as an alternative is a really good day out with a bunch of very welcoming people.

Highly recommended, and in the same way I was welcomed, new players with or without previous experience on a Bowls Green will enjoy for sure.

Theres also a nice little restaurant attached serving home made western style food, meat pies, shepherds pies, pizzas etc all in all a great day out.

Tuesdays and Thursdays 8.30am start !!

The Chiang Mai Lawn Bowls group is planning to change the Thursday start time from 8 am to 3.30 pm for twilight bowls under lights. Please check the lawn bowls website. Other individuals or groups are welcome any time and bowls are available for use, but please phone first.

I recently went to the grand opening of the new Bowls Club, it really is a good facility, makes a change from golf, though most of the players are also golfers, except me!!.

Good way to while away a few hours on a Tuesday morning or a Thursday afternoon.

The people are very friendly and the food is really good should you wish to partake in lunch after you play.

You don't even have to have your own set of bowls!

What a great idea.

I played top level bowls in Oz - the bowls capital of the world. Won a district champion of champions pairs final against a couple of State players. Dismal conditions assisted us. We played long ends.

I played lead - loved quick greens - 17-20 sec. Drakes Pride bowls. Lawn bowls cost a fortune now.

Pattaya has a lawn bowls facility.

Really missed it here in CNX.

Good luck, guys. Drink too much piss if that is possible.

Lawn bowls has become a "dirty" game - $$$ & ego. Not a game for "gentlemen" anymore.

Shaving bowls to the limit. Never enough!

In Oz. the greens are quick & winds make it even more challenging. Shave a bit more off!

In the end, I confess that I participated in playing illegal bowls.

Very much enjoyed Sunday morning watching champions on TV - Scots, Poms, South Africans, Kiwis & Aussies. Now, Canada & USA has taken it on.

I now live in Fang. Must make a visit to CNX for bowls someday.

This is a really great facility, and one that quite a few have been asking for in Chiang Mai for a few years now. The owner of the facility ( Don) a Kiwi guy who has spent a small fortune importing the specialist astroturf from New Zealand deserves our support, anyone out there who fancies having a game can attend the club session every Tuesday at 08.30 start.....starting early to avoid the heat of the day! I d never played before but you can pick the game up quite quickly, and there are sets of bowls available to use at the green.

Its a bit out of town, really close to the Night Safari, and in addition, Dons wife has a little Bistro onsite serving up great Pizzas, Pasta, Home made meat pies etc etc.

You can find out where it is on the clubs website www.chiangmailawnbowls.com
