20 K proof at the border

Recommended Posts

I posted this info before, now I'll post it again.

I was in Penang, Malaysia on the 7th of April.

There is a notice posted there on the wall in the Thai consulate near where you apply for visas.

This notice says quite clearly that those getting a Tourist visa and expecting to cross by land into Thailand from Malaysia should expect to be asked to show 20K Thai baht in currency on crossing from Malaysia into Thailand

This notice was placed right there on the wall in the Thai consulate right there next to where you apply, pay for, and pick up your tourist visas stamped n your passport.

Unless someone was blind they could not miss that notice.

It is up in Mae Sai and has been for years. Someone wrote in English on it not too long ago that it is not needed to show the money. I have never heard of anyone being asked to show money.

I would guess that rule is just there to keep some people out, if you are a normal person/tourist I would not worry about it however better safe than sorry.
