Bangkok:- Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has launched a campaign to encourage women to explore destinations around the kingdom.

The campaign titled “Lady Journey: A Touch of Thainess” is the latest of the “Lady Journey” series, which TAT has conducted in collaboration with the UOB Lady’s Card, United Overseas Bank (UOB) for five consecutive years now.

This initiative has targeted women because they become increasingly independent, have the power to make trips, and show a taste for travel.

“They can go out and discover interesting Thai destinations with their friends, their siblings or their children,” Pataraporn Sithivanich, director of TAT Product Promotion Department, says.

She says with this year’s Touch of Thainess theme, the Lady Journey will recommend smaller, lesser-known but still charming towns so that it is easier for travelers to experience the impressive Thai ways of life.

Among these recommended towns are Chanthaburi, Kanchanaburi, Phrae, Nan, Satun and Loei.

“It’s a way for travelers to get to know more about Thai culture, the Thai way of life and Thai experience – the characteristic that makes Thailand very unique and sets us apart from all other countries,” Pataraporn says.

In support of the Lady Journey 2015 campaign, TAT has also published booklets to recommend routes and attractions to interested people. The booklets are available in both Thai and English languages. Free copies are available at TAT headquarters and its various offices.

While women are bound to expand horizons through the trips they have made, local communities can benefit from income tourism has generated for their hometowns.

Yes, go to some Thai town, have some food and be letched at and possibly groped (and/or far worse) by drunk Thai men who have absolutely no respect for women.

If my 20 year old daughter (who is in the UK ) told me that she plans to travel around Thailand. I would say "Hell no. No way! Too dangerous"

If you google 'murder in' and then put the name of each town she mentions, you see that at least one female tourist has either been raped or murdered there!

Lady touch indeed.

and if you Google "woman murdered in ...." the results are even more graphic and disturbing - definitely wouldn't recommend Chiang Mai on the basis of those results

Great idea....

Woman are far more likely to use social media every minute of the day showing off their fun experiences and exotic locations.

However if you want really bad news items to manifest invite them on mass at your peril.

Rape , theft , sexual assault , fondelling , and theft , drugging , it's got it all.

Nurder included sadly.

Basically , you will have stories emerging weekly if the rapists and mafia have their way.

Though some places like Chiang Mai it might work fine.

South of Bangkok it will be a nightmare in many cases.

Even if its only a few rapes and murders

Thailand isn't geared to deal with crime

TAT should consider their safety in this current climate too

I hope they remind the "ladies" not to wear bikini's, cos as the PM stated, that's an open invitation for Thai's to rape them.

Yeah, well notice the majority of the provinces mentioned except chantaburi are landlocked - They obviously thought of keeping the women out of bikini hotpsots. Safety first.

I know how much the TAT likes their statistics. However, in this case I’m missing one:

According to current statistics, an average of 87 cases of sexual violence against women and children were reported per day in Thailand- about one case every 15 minutes. Officially, the number of 2013 is 31.866.
