Best country to fly to for a visa extension?

Featured Replies

I don't plan on renewing my work contract but need to stay in Thailand for a few months to sell my car and claim tax back etc.

Where is the best place to fly to for a visa extension - I think the max is 2 months with an additional 30 extension (at Pattaya immigration) but would appreciate any recent info on changes and recommendations.

Apologies if there is a thread on this, I did do a search but the relevent link was out of date

You can fly out and get tourist visa from an embassy or consulate that will give you a 60 day entry that can be extended for 30 days at an immigration office.

You can get a 2 entry tourist visa in Vientiane or Savannakhet Laos they would you almost 6 months of total stay or you could get a single entry visa.

Penang Malaysia will do a single entry tourist visa.

Cheers ubonjoe, does this rule apply to any country I fly to as I'd rather visit Cambodia or Philippines

It takes about 3 days to get the visa in Cambodia unless you use an agent.

The Philippines will want to see a ticket out of the country and proof of accommodations to get the visa. They can also be less than friendly at times.

Penang is always my first choice as it is the quickest and easiest for single visas. You can fly in early in the morning and fly out the next night. They process visas in one day. I also love eating the food there. Laos is usually people's first choice coming from BKK and there you can get multiple entries and they process very efficiently also. Cambodia is usually pretty smooth but takes more time usually 3 days if I remember right. I did it there 12 years ago but only one time. I have no information on the Phillipines but I doubt they are very efficient. I have had trouble in Indonesia, Korea, Japan and China for visas. They are slightly more of a pain.

Hong Kong will do it for you - but it is an expensive city to spend a couple of days in.

But maybe easier to get to than the Philippines.

Gentlemen

Is it possible to do a border run (30 days) and then another border run (30 days) and then - IF I need another 30 days, I can get the extension at Pattaya

Immigration?

My reluctance to fly out to Cambodia et el is the Thai consulate will want to see a ongoing flight before issuing a 60 day visa and I don't have one just yet.

Who says the Cambodian "et el" Thai consulates demand an "ongoing flight" ?

Planning back to back "visa exempt" entries is a bad idea !

I saw it on a few travel websites. Are you saying that the Thai consulate in Phnom Pen will issue 60 days without me having a outward bound flight from Thailand?

People have gotten them without a ticket out of the country. Just use the right agent. No agent and it takes three days.

Vientiane or Savannakhet Laos will do a 2 entry tourist visa with no flight out and it is next afternoon pickup after applying the morning of the first day.

Use the right agent? Is there a section in this forum that lists the agents that will get the 60 days without outward flight?

You will have to find your own agent !

Most of the travel agents in PP offer a service

Perhaps I'm over worrying but I would hate to fly out for four days to Phonom Pen and only get a 30 day tourist visa on my return because of me not having an outward bound flight.

Then go to Laos where , for sure, no outward flight will be required .....................................

There are no 30 day " tourist visas" only 30 day "visa exempt entries"

Savannakhet same day for tourist visas if I understand correctly.

Not since the first of February. It is back to next afternoon.

Thai immigration has been told to crack down on people entering Thai for extended periods of time without the appropriate visa.

All persons will be scrutinized upon entry into Thailand at all land and air immigration points.

I'll bring my bank book and Thai driving license to prove I have worked there for 11 years

Do you have a source for that info, Otherwise it is another unfounded rumor.
