TRANG: -- Hat Chao Mai National Park in Trang province will be closed for four months beginning June 1 to September 30, the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation announced this week.

The four-month closure to visitors is be for the nature at the park to recuperate from tourists and also for safety reason as the closure period is normally a monsoon season.

It will reopen on October 1.

Hat Chao Mai National Park is located on the western coast of southern Thailand. The park covers land and sea areas of 230 square kilometers. It is one of the most popular tourist spots of Trang province rich with unspoiled natural beauty.

It is vast national park that includes Hat Chao Mai beach and Hat Chang Lang beach (where the park headquarters are situated).

The west of the park features a range of limestone cliffs overlooking the sea. The cliffs provide entrance to Morakot Cave (known locally as ‘Tam Nam’ or Emerald Cave).

The entrance is a hole in the cliffs and the cave can only be entered at low tide – when the tide is in, the entrance is completely submerged.

There is a small fishing village in the east of the village, and a number of islands (including Koh Muk, Koh Kradan, Kao Jao Mai, Koh Waen, Koh Cheuak, Koh Pling and Koh Meng) are under the park’s control.
