GLO to impose harsher sentencing on lottery retail violations

BANGKOK, 21 May 2015 (NNT) – The Government Lottery Office (GLO) said that it will spare no effort to bring to justice sellers that have overpriced their lottery tickets, adding that it will dispatch special teams to search for rogue operators.

GLO Chairman Major General Apirat Kongsompong affirmed that lottery tickets for the June 16 drawing, which will be available on June 2, must be sold for 80 baht per pair. Those caught in violation of the price regulation can face a jail term of one month and/or a fine of 10,000 baht.

The GLO has appointed ten fact-finding teams consisting of personnel from the army, police, Revenue Department and Department of Special Investigation (DSI).

The ad hoc teams, are deployed across ten major cities. They have been assigned to track down lottery retailers that violate the price regulation.

General Apirat disclosed that the GLO has received incriminating information major lottery agencies and has prepared to impose harsher punishments, such as seizing assets.

They really are wanting to cut out the parasitic leaches that cause the price increases due to profiteering and price collusion. Nice little earner I'd imagine, I guess the 4 big suppliers contracts are void now with article 44 being used.

And shouldn't these adhoc / Fact Finding teams be focusing on the pricing being charged for people to take tickets wholesale or in bulk. Or is it now a case of they have sorted the supply out now to crush any over pricing at the end of the supply chain

Told them long time ago how to sort it out but they haven't listened.

Set up GLO offices in every province or city that are responsible for selling lottery tickets direct to the vendors at a set price that gives the vendors a reasonable profit with unsold tickets returned for a refund. Every office is required to account for every ticket that passes through that office. All vendors are licensed and the offices take complaints about vendors and a vendor can have their license revoked for unfair dealing.

Cut out all the middle men, the vendors know what they will pay for their supply of tickets and the buyers know how much they pay. The more tickets a vendor sells the bigger their profit, only possible problem could be vendors fighting over turf.

Glad to see the DSI deployed on this vital mission which is a real threat to national security. They really need to nip this issue in the bud since Thai people are clearly not bright enough to buy their lottery tickets from vendors selling them at 80 baht a pair and will naturally buy them from unscrupulous vendors who are charging more than this. Unless of course everyone continues selling them at the inflated price which will be where the finely honed skills of these elite law enforcement specialists will be needed.

I always get the impression when, what appears to be a problem with a simple solution is not solved and comments keep appearing in the media about doing this and that to sort it. The issue is that dangerous and/or very well protected people are at the heart of it all.

The big problem with the lottery now is there is no jackpot only small prizes So why bother Its a waist of money

A 2,000,000 Baht prize is not a waist of money as it would buy a Thai family a nice house !
