If that is the case lets have a referendum in which the people can choose between the 1997, 2007 or 2015 constitution. After that we can then have an election under the constitution that was choses by the people.

For those who are infactuated by vote buying, what do you call the multi billion Baht pension hand out for civil servants, followed by the FIFA wc at B 450 million, followed by holiday freebies for 300 000 civil servants, followed by salary increases of 3 times the inflation rate for civil servants, followed by tax deductions for local holidays for the BKK middle class, followed by extra bonuses for security personnel, followed by the shelving of the land tax which would hit their friends with 600 000 rai too hard and then the one that got swept under carpet - appointment of friends and family in government positions by the junta and their friends (remember this one and the multi media system that was installed in parliament, they both under the carpet). No vote buying here move on.

Its important to recognise that only about 55% of voters expressed a preference. That means 45% said "don't know" or refused to answer. Probably most of those do have a preference but felt uncomfortable expressing it. Because of the high non-response rate, the poll is actually meaningless in determining preferences, but does put a floor on support (i.e. at least 25% support PT and at least 29% the Democrats.

Now we can really understand what a farce these polls are......a complete fiction devised in someone's small, immature mind!!

Yep, I fully agree, these polls are a crock of s##T.

But..............................I bet if the poll went the other way and PTP were the most popular there would be lots of red/PTP supporters with small, immature minds all over it like a cheap suit, agreeing with the results.

You people are so fickle.

Well, we don't know there is anything wrong with the poll. It may be perfect. But what we do know is that there was a very high non-response rate. High enough to mean the data presented is meaningless in determining actual public preference. I might think that PT supporters would be more likely to self-censor, but the real point it that I cannot know that from this poll. It could be that 75% support the Democrats, or it could be that 70% support PT, or it could be anything in between. We just cannot know.

This is one of the problems with polling in Thailand, as this data is presented as meaningful, whereas anyone with the faintest familiarity with statistics knows this cannot be.

As it is the start of a new month we are pleased to provide you with another pointless, bogus opinion poll

( TAT ) Tourism Authority of Thailand conduct all polls, cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Yeah! In their canteen.

Pulling petals from a Petunia "They love me" "they love me not" and so on. If this poll is right call a snap election lets see who wins. Iron out the constitution later or recycle an older one.

Most polls are plus or minus a few percent but I have a feeling in this one the swing could be in the double digits.

Margin of error is one thing, but non-response it completely different. We can calculate margin of error. If it is say 5%, then the two numbers 49% and 54% are statistically equal. That's why it makes no sense to say something like candidate X is leading Y 43% to 41%.

pre-payment for the work they will do on behalf of the generals and their ultra-rich allies once the new constitution is put in place which re-creates a feudal Thai society controlled by those with the power and run by the technocrats.... coffee1.gif

Hey, Mike, you seem to forget that so many of us are not PTP supporters but that we can still recognize that what ever PTP-reincarnation comes out of the current purge will do very well in the polls.

To be honest, one could have a lively debate on whether the PTP is so loved or whether the Dems are just so feeble...

Personally, I come down on the "feeble-Dems" side... coffee1.gif

Interesting results. Look at them closely

Democrats go from 20.5% to 29.2%

PTP goes from 18.5% to 25.8%

With approx., 40%+ "undecided" or more likely unwilling to reveal a voting preference due to personal concerns.

I would expect the voting results to shake out the same as they have for the past 15 years - PTP.

And lets not forget the inheritance tax set at 50 million. Pushed up a notch to one hundred million . And then there was all that land taken from the village dwellers and nicely reallocated to another certain group of dwellers.

I would like to see methodology used for this poll: spread of people polled in which areas, how they were contacted (if by phone... they could know exactly who they were calling). Contrary to many posters opinions, Thais aren't stupid and there is that cultural value of telling the listener what they want to hear over honesty.

Seems if General et al accept these numbers, then they should rush to hold election. It would be a first for demos to win, wouldn't it? Or at least in this millennium.

I think you may be incorrect thinking the generals would like to see the Democrats in power. They just keep them around as puppies, but don't really take them seriously. The Democrat supporters, who always thought themselves so high and mighty, and better than everyone else, have now been brought to heel, and shown to be foolish and naive lapdogs, sniffing the butt of their masters.
