I've been reading the Thai News (political forum) and it seems that every topic is dominated by a group of people that want to turn every topic into hate Thaksin topic even though the connection is tenuous at best.

What is the best recourse to try and have a rational conversation? Report the constant anti Thaksin posts or challenge them to prove some link to the topic?

I don't want to be accused of bickering but Thaksin did not cause an increase in Chinese tourism or the drought.

The type of off-topic posts you mention are a big nuisance and the moderating team will appreciate it if you and other members report such posts.

It's also indicative of the amount of hate Thaksin elicits - the residual effects of his actions and speeches are still being felt - at least in Thailand. he had his fingers in many pies. If he hadn't been booted out, he'd likely still be in power, with such wealth and control over Thailand, - to make Marcos and Sukarno blush. Actually SE Asia, in the past 50 years, has had a slew of crappy leaders in every country. Why is it so rare to get a decent leader in this part of the world?

It's been the bread and butter of the news section of this forum for years and it's one of the many reasons why there are so few well-informed posters here. You ask "What is the best recourse to try and have a rational conversation" - the answer is to look elsewhere. This forum caters to a particular market (and it does that well) but that market doesn't extend to people who have informed and well-reasoned opinions on Thai politics. Such people may be here in small numbers, but that's despite forum policy, not because of it. And none of this is going to change any time soon.

If one looks at it understanding Thaksin is "TV speak" for any rich Asian guy or anything Asian it begins to make sense. I'd say about 40% of the posters actually know anything about Thailand and Thaksin and the other 60% are ranting about things non Western.

In reading the posts it seems that 40% are involved in the rich poor Thai debate and 60% are bashing anything not Western (see the "have you ever seen a Thai invent anything or Durian smells like dog poop type of bashes....")
