Probe into human trafficking on schedule
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The joint police-prosecutors investigation into the trafficking of Rohingya and other migrants is ongoing around the clock and will be completed on June 23 as scheduled, a source said yesterday.

Key suspect Lt-General Manas Khongpaen has not been released as rumoured and was still been detained at the Na Thawee Prison in Songkhla, the source added.

All 240 witnesses interviewed had been protected, another police source said, adding that the details on the 33 suspects on the run had been released in the form of a most wanted calendar.

Meanwhile, the National Anti-Corruption Commission said Manas' detention and other steps relating to NACC procedures could be independently carried out by police probing the case.

NACC secretary-general Panthep Klanarongran said this practice was applicable to an investigation into four offences including the investigation into former grand chamberlain Montree Sotangkoon for alleged lese majeste.

On paper it's a smart move setting a deadline as of course it will be met with so much left undone which is probably what's wanted.

This is a major investigation where deadlines are totally inappropriate, an interim report perhaps but not a firm deadline for something this complex to be all wrapped up.

Now let's see if the international community buys it.
