Rick Perry calls Charleston church shooting an 'accident'

He may have intended to say, "incident", but this self-inflicted wound (no pun intended) only goes to continue the narrative that Rick Perry is not a very intelligent person. And I'm sure his campaign would be thrilled to know that the conversations on the Internet have brought back up his property called xxxxxhead. facepalm.gif

What do you think Putin and the Chinese have been doing to Obama, Clinton and Kerry fior the past 6+ years?

Same as the lunar far out and right wing tea party types have been trying to do all of which is based in their racialism.

Unsuccessfully.

Prez Obama already has his legacy and Perry has his destiny as a disaster who along with his entire Republican party are stuck behind the eight ball.

Sort of like when you ' misspoke' about Dylan Roof driving to kill a Senator. Talk about the lunatic fringe.

What I find more amazing than Perry's comment is how the usual bunch are struggling to find anyway possible to defend Perry, his gun toting ideals and seem to be forgetting that 9 US citizens were slaughtered in their place of worship (i guess the fact they were all black was just a coincidence rolleyes.gif ) It is no wonder this kind of thing happens in the states because if the comments we read on here are representative of the US mind-set the place is totally screwed.

Last Thursday, June 11, 9 people were shot in a Bridgeport, Connecticut USA housing development. Didn't see that on Thai Visa, did we? Where is the president, presidential hopefuls, and main stream news pundits on this accident incident? 'Shhhhhh'. I'll bet ya the shooters weren't white, therefore, not 'news worthy', even if the victims were black. Hummmmm?

Some world we live in, huh?

The sad thing about all this, they are more likely to ban the flying of the confederate flag in all this than have any sensible debate about gun control. (Yes blah blah blah second amendment)...

Maybe because it was a gang related shooting at midnight at a party and 1 person was killed as opposed to 9 killed in a church during a service. Do you see any difference? 1 killed vs 9 killed. Party and gang related vs church service? Same same?

Timothy James McVeigh killed 168 with a fertilizer bomb did they ban fertilizer?

And a guy recently killed 200 people when he purposefully crashed his aircraft in to a mountain, and hey !! they haven't banned aircraft. The point is that fertilizer was made to make crops grow, and aeroplanes were made to transport people, now what were guns made for? rolleyes.gif Guns are made for only one reason and that is to kill people, not for defence or sport or any other argument you want, they are expressly made to kill people. Bye the way in those countries that have suffered greatly at the hands of terrorists using 'fertilizer' in home made bombs, such as Northern Ireland (funded of course to the tune of 25 M USD per year by you know who), there were very strict limitations put on the sale and use of any large quantities of the stuff.

If Obama had stood up recently and referred to the dreadful accident at Columbine or the terrible accident on 9/11 then I imagine the right wingers on here would be in need of tranquilizers.

This was a racist massacre of innocent people, nothing more and nothing less. Drugs didn't do it, drink didn't do it, a guy that hates blacks living in a society that is inherently racist did it. 'There is no defence to offer m'Lord'! Take him to the hanging tree, there are plenty of those still around in South Carolina, they just weren't used to hang many whites though were they.

You have a point there. Since I no longer live in America I don't worry about the gun thing. If I remember correctly in Edinburgh they kill people with knives a lot.

Guns are made to kill people and to kill game and to protect people. You only listed one use. 750,000 hunters in Michigan. 700,000 in Pennsylvania. How many in the whole of the US? I think it is about the same size as the population of a little country like the UK. So the politicians are talking but know nothing is going to happen.

Ok, I concede a point, lets just say guns are made to kill living things, nothing else. How do they protect people??? .....They kill other people or living things, so lets take that one out of your 'reasons for guns'. They are made to Kill there is no other purpose. Any other purpose is simply a fad so that people who like guns can use them every day because unfortunately they cant go killing every day (unless it's a rabbit).

I guess an interesting litmus test when looking at the true need for Gun control in a society would be to legalise the killing of others with a gun(providing of course it is legal to own a gun). I wonder what would happen in the UK, or Singapore or even Canada? Now I wonder what would happen in the US? I bet there would be a population reduction of 30-50% in 12-24 months. wink.png

There should be absolutely 100% no arguing over the massacre of these people. There is no excuse there should be no counter arguments in order to hang on to precious weapons, what happened is WRONG in every sense of the word and to hear politicians and general public squabbling over possible reasons and explanations to detract from the truth is a terrible indictment on those people and the societies they belong to.

Looks like Rick Perry's run for president is also an accident.

An accident and yet another incident.

Perry seems unable to remember what it is he's supposed to say or is trying to say.

Politicians do talk a lot so they occasionally flub. Perry flubs a lot period. He draws too much attention to his continuing fumbling and bumbling in his public speaking. He needs to go home and return to plowing cattle and waving his hat in the air. Putin would eat Perry alive and the Chinese would laff him out of the room. Pathetic.

Yes, he reminds me of George W.

Rick Perry is now wearing glasses (presumably in an attempt to seem more "intellectual", or at least to read the tele-prompter better), so we may soon be hearing references to DR Perry (dime-store degree of course).

I don't recall a former US pres being called Dr X. Perhaps he could cultivate the image of a nutty professor.

I agree with Ulysses G. that it was a hit piece and a sloppy one.

The "accident" comment can be found buried in the The Guardian article:

“This is the MO of this administration, any time there is an accident like this, the president is clear. He doesn’t like for Americans to have guns and so he uses every opportunity, this being another one, to basically go parrot that message,” Perry said.

He added that pushing gun control was a “knee-jerk reaction” that would do little to change gun violence “as long as evil and cowardice is alive in the world ...”

Obviously, the better word would have been "incident".

He's not wrong on Obama's news conference comments about this mass shooting. It was embarrassing to leverage this shooting into a political agenda.

To make matters worse, Obama also distorted, at best, the facts regarding mass violence happening in other advanced countries:

"But let’s be clear: At some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries. It doesn’t happen in other places with this kind of frequency."

Chart of Top 10 Nations in the World for Mass Shootings - IJReview 19 June 2015

The USA comes after Norway, Finland, Slovakia, Israel and Switzerland based on mass shooting fatalities per 1,000,000, 2009-2013. All five countries are classified as having "Restrictive" firearms regulations, whereas the USA is classified as "Permissive".

Pile of meaningless crap as far as the statistics go. Norway No.1 for it's only ever recorded gun rampage. The other countries not dissimilar, except possibly for Israel, a war zone. I know which countries I would feel safer walking around in and it ain't the US.

Three men broke into my home as my family slept. I opened fire and they ran away. Protecting my family. I deposited large amounts of money in the bank from my business and I carried a fire arm openly when I did this. Protecting myself and my business. I took my guns to the target range to trap and skeet shoot for sport. Shooting is a sport. I killed dangerous animals when I lived in the West. Protected my self and family. Guns are not made just to kill things. I don't concede that point. Bank guards carry guns. Farmers and ranchers carry guns. I have a good friend a coyote killed his best friend old dog and he wished he had been carrying a gun. Sorry but the rest of your argument falls if one does not your original false supposition.

If you were the drill down through this and other oft posted "piles of meaningless crap", you'd find that the chances of a middle class, non-drug peddling citizen of the USA being gunned down are minuscule.

If you drew red lines on a map around approximately 1/2 of 1% of the land mass of the USA in some inner cities, and avoided those areas, you'd have about zero chance of being shot. Or so close to zero that it wouldn't affect me, anyone I know, or anyone they know- any more than the chance of an airplane falling out of the sky on my head.

What nonsense. zero chance? Did your red lines include the infant school in Sandy hook Connecticut and a Church in Charleston?

I doubt it and I am not a fan. Read what he actually said, as opposed to the way it was presented. This is a very convoluted hit piece.

An accurate piece...the headline merely states what he said (bold emphasis mine to assist those that missed it the first reading)

" “This is the MO of this administration, any time there is an accident like this, the president is clear. He doesn’t like for Americans to have guns and so he uses every opportunity, this being another one, to basically go parrot that message,” Perry said.. "

Perry used the word "accident" to refer to the incident,

It may be a hit piece, and deservedly so.

If this gets traction, it will hurt his political aspirations a lot.

Great, analysis, SS. "Any time there is an accident like this" (regarding the modus operandi of the executive) is markedly different from the "church shooting was an accident."

Perry is at best inartful. It is that quality, however, that appeals to many in such characters as Perry or even Trump. They are not polished, practiced, poised, and packaged. Likewise, it is that aspect of them that is first targeted as both their strength and vulnerability. Perry was speaking to the fundamental fabric of this administration, this president, to manipulate every/any crisis into a fulcrum to enact legislation that could otherwise not be supported, as summed up by his COS Emmanuel best:

Note: The consistent reliance on SSRI and other drugs is the single overwhelming aspect that binds these disparate criminal acts. Few people have the courage to swim against the DSM-IV/V and big pharma and government medicating the populace and speak to this. Drugs, not guns, bind these acts. Guns no more connect these acts than the car that drove the shooters to the site.

Posted

I would say he "accidentally" just shot himself in the foot. Well, one fewer candidates to choose from, that's good.

No, he "incidentally" shot himself in the foot - and the REAL issue is what sorts of medications he has been taking over the last 5 years - you know, the sort that would make you forget the name of a Federal department that you mean to abolish; the sort of medication that makes you look like a creepy automaton made of wax, hair dye and preternaturally white teeth.

Just to clarify, are we still talking about mass shootings here?

You quote me and yet the OP is emphatic; the suggestion that drugs played a key role is introduced early in this OP. This may be correct or not, but it is an integral part of the conversation. You may not think it is, I do, but both are irrelevant- it was the context that Perry spoke within. He is correct.

There should be no hesitation to have a conversation about the predicates to this shooting, any shooting. Clearly guns are one because they were the tool used. However, just as equally the commonality of drugs and prescription drugs in particular, are present in a significant number of these cases. Yet we can have no discourse on this, its oddly ignored. There is like some false exchange being offered- discuss drugs loss gun control platform... Simpson head slap, "Duh!" lose momentum on gun control... duh!

Poppycock. Guns and drugs are not even causally related, and that is of course the premise of the drugs-concern group like Perry. Drugs influence people, not guns. It is equally true that a conversation about drugs does not rule out a conversation about guns. Have them both as there is no causal relation at any level. Why the dissembling and obfuscation when numerous people demand an exploration into the consistent feature of SSRI and other drugs in these horrific violent crimes? It nearly seems intentional but it is not. It is stupidity and lack of intelligence that have the emotive gun control crowd presuming an additional conversation about drugs somehow hijacks their narrative that inanimate objects have inherent power. Nonsense.

we are still talking about mass shootings here

There is an indisputable nexus between drugs and profound violence. Numbers like this are so far beyond chance as to be dizzying.

Words of Mass Deception.

FDR got his legislation passed because he carried his party into Congress with him in the WH. Same is true about LBJ and Barack Obama's first term to 2010. All the rest from Emmanuel is ego-tripping rhetoric.
