Unlike most of the other half a million of these pests, but then they don't have them in Geneva so it's easy to not see the problem they cause.

It is neither nasty or ignorant to point out that soi dogs are an enormous problem in Thailand. They spread disease, attack people, bark and cause a traffic hazzard. One recently bit my wife, the security guard, two kids and three others before it was dealt with. Thai neighbor smashed it on the head with a piece of metal, could not blame the owners as there were none. What is stupid and ignorant is to pretend they are not a problem and for idiots to feed and take care of them thus perpetuating the problem. Thailand need as mass culling of these pests as the population is out of hand, along with sterilization. Soi dogs are really vermin no better than rats, of course pets well looked after are different. Of course all the soi dog lovers on here actually eat meat but don't see the hypocrisy in that, you can't be an animal lover and eat them, sorry.

Feel sorry for your wife, but then again people do all sorts of things for the money

Shipmate, I dare say many people would agree with (I do to a certain extent) I would, thus encourage you to begin a thread on this very topic.

All happiness to you.

Obviously, I wasn't there, but if your neighbor "smashed" the dog after the fact - he/she potentially committed a crime.

All true in some cases no doubt

I've also seen them as companions to homeless and the staggeringly poor.

Everyday I see poverty stricken kids playing with and being protected by soi dogs (the family doesn't "own" them), in a situation where for once they enjoy the pet companionship that middle class kids do all over the world. About the only thing these kids have in common with the average middle class kid.

It always amazes me how much these dogs put up with (pulling on ears, being dragged around by 2-4 year olds) and never an impatient snap or any aggression. A marvel of the animal kingdom in my opinion.

I understand the problems and dangers, my wife got bitten too, but as of all things in Thailand, things are never just black and white, except the odd soi dog...
