Another Pattaya Facebook clip showing assault involving British man emerges



PATTAYA: -- There seems to be a never-ending stream of video clips from Pattaya being posted on Facebook at this time and yet another has emerged which appears to show a foreign national being assaulted on Walking Street.

The clip was filmed on 26th June, just before 11pm, and shows only a small part of the altercation where the man, identified as Mr. Thomas Moody aged 27, who works for a private security firm in Iran, is knocked to the ground and appears to be have been rendered unconscious for a time.

The clip appeared on a popular Thai Facebook page called “YouLike” and prompted local journalists to delve deeper into the case to see what happened before the clip was recorded.

CCTV from the area was obtained and it was confirmed the altercation occurred at the front of Soi 15 on Walking Street. Mr. Moody appears to have been staggering along the street and collided with a Thai man, who we have identified as one of the many men and women who work on the street and try and persuade people to visit local bars which have explicit shows.

cases a joke and under preforming, either by default or by design....

So, without having the facts, lets speculate from what we have.

A drunken white male (in the security business) staggers into a Thai tout, words are exchanged, fight ensues and instead of helping the victim some idiot videos it and posts to FB.

Unfortunately, this type of incident happens everywhere in the world, the only thing that is different about it is the location being already smeared.

I'm not sure about where you come from, but if it happened where I originated the drunk guy would be lucky if he got a hospital bed.

And that is from a supposed first class country.

I remember all my earlier trips circa 2004. Walking street and most of Pattaya was just cool. Soi 7 and soi 8 were a great mix of outdoor bars, could sit on some comfortable cushioned seats. Walking street was always a pleasant diversion. Now it is crawling with more cops than I prefer to see. More assaults and crime seems to happen. Sure the same street hawkers and scam artists are there as before, but now they are really aggressive, looking for an argument, etc. The lights are too bright, the beach road walkway is very unappealing. I used to like walking under palm trees and mangroves. Since that hatchet job a few years ago, and the installation of bright stadium lights, and recently the widening of the road and shrinking of the sidewalk, just doesn't make for a pleasant place. So sad to see it have degenerated in a few years, mostly since about 2008.

Young visitors may not be aware that these Thai guys mostly win any confrontations, using whatever methods.

These touts with their little cards and lists of descriptions are a pest though, they deliberately stand in your way and make you walk around them, somehow inciting issues.

Sadly this happens all over the world where there are lots of people and too much drinking. It disgusts me whenever I see something like this, as violence is so unnecessary and just proves how ugly human beings can be. Often cowardly too. Never impressive to see what we consider to be adults degenerating to this. It is the same in Nana Soi 4 now, where you could walk peacefully up the road. Now all the parasitical types have all taken over the bars, the old adventurer type owners long since gone and now left with a street full of ugly people....tacky bars, greedy street vendors, ....massive change from twenty years ago, when it was a much safer place and more based on fun.... Sukhumvit is at night is just awash with Nigerian drug dealers, unattractive Eastern block hookers, the greedy who flock like flies to a carcass and the nice, generous peaceful spirit of the Thai's left somewhere in the gutter......sad to see, but it is what happens when commercialism, greed and mass tourism takes over, and the authorities do nothing to curb it...people wreck things...what was just fun becomes ugly......reminds me of the cities now back in UK, at bar closing time on a Friday night.....sadly this is now happening in many areas where once tourists felt safe...you have to be careful at night now and be aware there are some horrible people out there of all nationalities and do not think everyone who smiles is nice because they are not. This sort of thing could happen to any one at night and I have seen it too many times. The fun has long since left the building

It spells alpha male with a huge ego and questionable common sense. No doubt when he was interviewed it was just a matter of seconds before he played the "me important, me tough guy, me work in IRAN security, me must be respected" card. I can only imagine the altercation that took place between the so called IRAN security guy and tout. Somehow I can't see him as being a "completely" innocent victim.

Booze and testosterone in combination with mafia-based commerce and millions of foreign visitors with many and varied cultural standards as their norm.... all things considered I think Pattaya does ok....

Of course, it could be "Cleaned up" if the undesireable elements were removed but then you wouldn't have millions of tourists in Pattaya - It's hard to keep your cake and eat it too!

All types of sports has its injuries..... Going to Pattaya and getting pisses out your mind is just one of them....

Obviously it's wrong of These Thai thugs to assault farangs, BUT it is what it is and you take the risk.

I found its easy and much more safer to just ignore these thugs on walking street and walk around them by keeping your cool....but if your pissed, 27 years old and prepared to get involved in a argument with a Thai man in Pattaya YOU WILL GET YOUR ASS KICKED...period !!!

It looks like two guys attacked him and one puts something in his pocket after the attack. From the bruising it was probably a knuckleduster. The police should check the CCTV and arrest the guy.

I vist Walking Street quite regularly and have never seen any of them acting as you describe above. In fact I most likely walk past a dozen of them 2 or 3 times a night when I am out, and for the most part have never been bothered.

It mostly comes down to being polite, a trait that many Brits visiting Thailand seem to be unable to do. Of course many can also not hold their alcohol either.

After a few too many, they think that they are still in the UK.

Yes, it is getting worse and worse in Pattaya. Many expats have already relocated to more safe places in Thailand.

Even Bangkok is a much more safe place to live than Pattaya. The probability that you meet criminals in Bangkok is much less because of the relative criminal concentration per every 1000 people you meet over there.

I lived in Bangkok for 2 years and I know what I am talking about.

By the looks of the video he probably staggered into the Thai guy and gave back abuse instead of an apology, and then seemed to give further abuse when walking away..... if this was the case as it looks he deserved a beating
