Previous posts have spoken of 'approved' drugs in Thailand - I wonder what the process is, presumably based on who pays who what. Generics from approved labs are, I believe, generally accepted in Europe and the UK!

Sex tablets sold in corner shops

By Naresh Puri

BBC News

Sex enhancement tablets that can be dangerous if taken without medical advice are being sold in Asian corner shops, trading officials warn.

Thousands of cheap variations of the licensed drug Viagra have flooded into Britain from India.

Trading standards officials warn that untested imitation pills could have fatal consequences.

Dubbed the "pills that kill", anyone who has bought them is being urged to throw them away immediately.

The potentially deadly pills being sold under the counter include Vigora, Proxyron and Kamagra. Kamagra oral jelly is also being sold.

Viagra is licensed in Britain to treat erectile dysfunction and is only available with a doctor's prescription or from some pharmacies.

Health experts say just one of these pills could kill someone who is already taking prescribed medicines for liver, heart, kidney or blood pressure problems.

"These tablets are illegal and unlicensed and have not been tested to UK standards to ensure they are safe. Anyone taking them could be risking their life," said Sangeeta Sharma, a senior pharmaceutical advisor who works for the local health authority in Ealing, West London.

Cheap pills

In recent days trading standards officers working undercover have seized nearly 1,600 tablets from one shop in Southall, the same Ealing community where 2,000 tablets were seized three weeks ago.

Authorities believe the fake pills are also being sold in Yorkshire and Scotland and they say they are now targeting the importers who bring in the drugs from the subcontinent.

In India a strip of four tablets can be as cheap as 50p, compared with the £15 they fetch on the black market in London.

At Boots the chemist, which began selling Viagra without prescription in February 2007, an hour-long consultation and medical tests conducted by a pharmacist cost £50, which includes four tablets.

The manufacturers of one of the drugs in question have expressed their concern over the illegal trade, saying their drug should be taken only under medical supervision.

"As far as Ajanta is concerned people should always seek medical advice," said Arvind Agrawal, from Ajanta Pharma Ltd, the makers of Kamagra.

As always, it,s an individual choice, but please take the risks into consideration along with seeking medical advice prior to

using sex enhancing drugs, especially the under / over the counter generics / copies that have not been medically approved.

Please note the last sentence of the BBC article, i,ve highlighted in bold regarding " Kamagra "

absolutely no difference between pfizer manufactured versions and reputable generic versions made by legit companies.

India makes a lot of generic medications because of their patent loophole. And most are manufactured by giants like CIPLA, Ranbaxy, multibillion dollar pharmaceutical companies and not some dodgy guy in his back yard.

Why is it then soooo much cheaper? Because the original makers/producers/brands charge exorbant prices to make up for their "brand name" and all the marketing and advertising and promoting they do. A small percentage is also to recoup the research and development costs.

Indian companies by Indian law are allowed to manufacture generic versions to the same standards etc since their law puts the health and betterment of people ahead of the ridiculous greed and profit orientation of some of the big companies.

Main point being generics produced by reputably pharmaceutical companies are identical in quality, standards and dosing to those expensive hyped up brand names. Big surprise then that many countries want to use them even in the developed world there are generic versions which are cheaper and equal in efficacy to the brand names.

Look at the average price of medications for AIDS patients in the US and compare with the same medications in generic form provided in INDIA. Astronomical difference in prices. And guess where most of the AIDS meds come from for Africa? :)

These are controlled drugs in Thailand, sale without a prescription is illegal.

Kamagra is simply a generic form of Viagra (sidenafil). It is not licensed for import or use in Thailand, but there is a locally made generic equivalent called Elonza, which would of course cost considerably less than brand name Viagra.

Well Guys , as one of the oldest posters on TV I can only pass on my proven advise , live a healthy life , eat a healthy diet which DOES NOT include street vendor offerings , limit your booze intake , find a woman who actualy turns you on and enjoy a fullfilling sex life with a satisfied woman . Daily(+) sex is still an important part of my life and hopefully will continue for many years to come , I am nobody special , but my body is special to me , if it complains , I find out why and do my utmost to cure the problem , more from a change of diet rather than looking to drugs .

Have an enjoyable life .

I have a high blood pressure, the strong medicines I take turns me a little down,

even my Austrian Doctor gave me the (in Austria) presccripton drug Viagra.

Works well, but expensive.

So here in Asia I buy KAMAGRA, CYAGRA, PENAGRA, works also well, but much cheaper,

4 x 100mg SILDENAFIL 200-250 B. and in Cambodia about 2 Dollar.

I brought also more than some to my homecountry for my good friends.

Until now, since 2000, no problem.

you forgot to mention you age my friend!

oops! just checked your profile which says you are 76 and you claim to have sex every day? reminds me of my grandmother who told us boys the story when she climbed the Nanga Parbat dressed in jeans and t-shirt and without oxygen mask :)

another "Nanga Parbat" story is the claim that generics do not work. the only active ingredient in Viagra is Sildenafil Citrate which could be bought in India from the manufacturer in 2005 for 440 US-dollars a kilogram. based on the assumption that the price today is more than double, a thousand dollars for the ingredient would still be enough to produce 10,000 pills each 100 mg. therefore manufacturers of generics would be plain stupid not to use the "real" ingredient and lose their market share in no time.

-Naam-,

thank you for the price you showed us, if true, means that also with a 1.000 Dollar price per Kilogramm,

that the raw material in the Sildenafil 100 mg pills is only 0,1 Dollar=10 Cent per pill and 0,4 Dollar per Pack of 4.

As I wrote the cheapest prices I saw had been 1,80 Dollar for 4 Sildenafil 100 mg pills in Phnom Penh.

Still a good price when the raw material is so inexpensive.

the raw materials are exceptionally cheap. imagine buying a 40foot container, full of barrels containing USP pharmaceutical grade 100% sidefanil citrate. it would be cheap as chips. the rest of the tablet is odd gunk and fillers eg corn starch, colouring etc etc

now imagine how much it would cost massive multibillion dollar companies? the most expense would be the whole production chain value addition ie machines, fillers, pressing, bottling, labelling, packaging etc. even then 1 single sidefanil pill prolly only costs them like 3cents cent to manufacture if not less.

To repeat:

1. Kamagra is simply an Indian brand of sidenafil i.e. a generic equivalent to Viagra. It does not have any special properties or advantages over other forms of sidenafil other than lower cost.

2. Kamagra brand of sidenafil is NOT licensed for import into or sale in Thailand. There is, however, a Thai generic brand of Sidenafil available, Elonza. I do not know the cost but sure to be less than Viagra. Think of it as the Thai Kamagra.

3. All of these drugs require prescription in Thailand.

In keeping with point #3 and forum rules on discussion of illegal activities, several posts have been deleted.

Just look at the price of Aspirin (Acetylsalicylic Acid) by Bayer Pharm. and compare it with prices here, same Product, way much cheaper then in the "heartland" of Europe, already in Turkey and Greece a big price difference!

Thank you for your clear words.

I hope its not illegal to say that in Cambodia-Sihanoukville for example the Generica from India, more than one kind what we are talking about,

are sold in normal shops,

grocery stores, freely on the counter in view for everybody near the cashier and near chewing gum, chocolate and condoms.

And for an exceptional cheap price!

:) imagining a child in the scene

Why? :D

Condoms and Lube are forefront in every 7-11 in Thailand so why not this stuff (other than it's illegal right now)

Sale of ED drugs without prescription is legal in Cambodia. It's in Thailand that they are prescription only, much more regulation of pharmaceuticals in Thailand than in Cambodia at present.

Street stalls have popped up all along mid Sukhumvit road selling these generics and some other herbal adjuvants.

To buy off these guys is ill-advised as these would be the highest risks of dangerous fakes or, if generic, would be rendered completely useless and even dangerous due to the constant exposure to the high ambient temp on the street.

These, and all other medicaion needs to be kept below 22 - 25 degrees C. at least to ensure stability of ingredients.

i asked if you guys know the prices of the week-packs IN A PHARMACY ...

i didnt say that i want to buy that stuff on the street :)

Posted

As some of you Insiders know to advertise that generic packs, boxes on the front of the counter is no big thing. As one or two Posters mentioned above.

There are no naked women or men on the packs, so what the fuss?

Small children will not even know what the names are and sure will not buy it or get it.

Some Hardcore Magazines that is what would make me thinking more and that is even in Cambodia only sold behind and under the counter.

Regarding the salesoffer on the Sukhumvit road from this Generica products, I would not be fear from faked genericas or copied Viagra,

the price is what is the problem. He is just to high from that guys compared to the prices I can buy in good stocked Pharmacies in BKK or in Cambodia.

It would also be illegal, even if you have a prescription, as street vebndors are not licensed to be selling pharmaceuticals.

Bubu, what do you mean by "week-packs" ?

I think there is abundant info on this forum about cost of brand-name Viagra from various places, altho still none on the cost of the local generic. With any drug, costs at an outside pharmacy will be lower than at a hospital pharmacy, with the hospital pharmacy mark-up being especially high in upscale private hospitals. Cost variation among outside pharmacies, assuming they are all selling genuine versions of the same thing, are not in my experience very great.

For those who use these medications (or any other medication) on a regular basis and thus might be able to purchse in bulk, it might be possible to purchase directly from manufacturer or distributor. I have done this for non-prescription-only drugs on several occasions and the savings over purchase at a pharmacy are substantial. Not sure if feasible for prescription-only drugs but might be if you can show a script (might need for the doctor to clearly prescribe the bulk quantity).

Posters are again reminded not to discuss illegal activities e.g. OTC purchase of ED drugs and some more posts have been deleted accordingly. If we can't avoid this the thread will have to be closed. But before it comes to that (no pun intended!) I hope someone will provide info on cost of the local generic sidenafil. as I think that info would be useful to many TV members (again, no pun intended :D)

been looking all over pattaya for elonza with no luck

plenty of other brands: 4 pills 100mg each 400 baht

i still think kamagra gel 100 mg for 70 baht is the better deal as long as it is not giving one headaches (see my thread)

I thought I wrote here already the prices I know, in BKK it starts with the above in Pharmacies, Sukhumvit area.

Possible, some Pharmacies try to keep the price higher, but usualy a little talking helps.

So, 200-250 B. for 4 Pills 100mg Sildenafil and much less, about 2 Dollars if you come to Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville in Cambodia.

one members recommended a pharmacy ... but they didnt sell kamagra ... then i asked another pharmacy at suk and they sold kamagra pills ... 4 pills kamagra plus 100mg ... price was 400 baht ... i didnt try to bargain, because i could accept the 400 for that kind of experiment ;-)

and what should i say ... i tried it and ... hmmm ... i planned to buy the oral jelly, but at the end i tried the pills ... first effects after 30 minutes ... and last effects after some hours ... no side effects, no headache ... nothing. great investment :)
