Home insurance for building and contents 2400 THB per year? Does that sound right?

Spoke to Viriyah insurance today re home insurance. I am told they are the most reputable in Thailand and we have our car insured with them.

Anyway, we requested around 600k THB building and 500k THB contents (robbery etc)..

Like most things here the process was ridiculous. My girl talking to obviously a trainee who had to keep going back and forth to his supervisor. They requested we

send them photos of the house? Then wanted a copy of my girls ID card....this before we even know a price or any details. Sounded like he didn't have a

clue so he just kept making silly requests. Anyway after tooing and froing for several hours he came back with a quote of sorts. Looked like it was knocked

up on a word document. Listed things like "electrical" 50k baht. I assume for loss by over voltage or lightning strike? Maybe they only insured stolen electricals

up to 50k? Who would know there was just no details and impossible to get clarity. There was no detail on the building insurance only a figure of 600k baht.

When asked what was covered or excluded he basically said it was up to them. They have to come and assess every situation.

I got quite a shock when they came back with a price of 2400 THB for the years cover. Does this sound right? Our car insurance is around 20k baht so I thought

the home would be similar. Probably get a few more quotes tomorrow. Im guessing impossible to get clarity from any of them if like most companies in TLOS.

What are you guys paying? Is it really that cheap? If so even without full detail for that money better than nothing I guess.

Anyone do better with another company?...preferably that you can get quotes etc online and will actually pay in the event of a problem

Get yourself to Tesco/Lotus.

Even better get a g/f than can speak English and translate for you.

2,400 baht per year, no chance of getting decent cover for that.

Yes the lightining surge cover sounds about right, no they will NOT insure for stolen items such as gold etc.

For a good Property Policy of 1.1m Baht (not 1m) then the special premium for 3 years payment 'upfront' is 4,329 Baht = 1,443 Baht / year

LINK

Note : this from an English speaking Broker who can explain in English with an English/Thai policy !
