I would check with TOT regarding WiNet. It works well and is reliable in my experience. If your house is not complete, and you don't yet have a house book, it may explain their (so far) lack of interest.

I have not approached TOT yet, all I know is there is a TOT phone box very close to our house, maybe 400 meters away, I always thought it was funny see`ing a phone box in the middle of nowhere you see that's why I remember it,.... looks like it hasn't been used in some years as its got grass growing inside it!

Sounds nice 5555.

Maybe with some luck you can have a TOT fixed line then, I'm sure that would be the best option.

I have just had TOT install a microwave internet connection 10mbps 3500 including modem , microwave receiver and installation then 599 a month. Check to see if there is a tower near you (must be line of sight). I had exhausted all other options as there are no cables here. I now get 10-14 mbps. GREAT

Yup, it's called WiNet, we had if for some time until fibre arrived in the village courtesy of a resort down the road :)

It's actually good for about 20km but as noted has to be line of sight. TOT came and did a survey with a receiver on a long pole before deciding that one of our power poles was a good location.

AiS have a similar service so both are worth a call to see who has service in your area.

I can't imagine someone who needs high speed internet not checking that it was 100% available where they planned to live, before moving there.

Everything I've ever read about living in a Thai village including my own (admittedly limited) experience outside Bangkok, makes me question why anyone would want to live in a village in the first place.

Good luck getting a connection that fills your needs.

When I first moved up here to the small village where I live now in 2003, I used to go to the big village 6 km away once a day and rent somebodys phone line just to get my emails.

It got a bit better over the years and I moved over to EDGE which was a huge improvement. 2 !/2 years ago TOT came along with WiNet and that was even better, then 3G came along and phone calls were better and I tried the AIS Aircard which is fabulous but it eats Gb faster than a starving soi dog so it is now relegated to an emergency back up system for when TOT crashes again.

Actually TOT went down again for a couple of hours today for the first time in 6 weeks but that was a big chunk of TOT and not just our little WiNet system.

Living in a small village in rural Thailand is great but it isn't for everyone. We have been here 12 years and I hav a work around for most problems that we get and it is so peaceful and no stress. I wouldn't live in a big city if you paid me now.

Hi Friend,

I to live in a village to. I just moved here about 6 months ago. The first thing I did was get Satellite TV from True Vision in Udon Thani. They have some great packages at what I think are fare prices. The reception I get is great. I got Platinum (the best) only because I wanted to watch the NHL Ice Hockey Playoffs, but you can do very well with Gold, and at a lower price. Plenty to watch including a few movie channels like HBO, which are in English. My wife likes the Thai Programs as well. The hookup was free as they had a promotion. But then they seem to have this promotion a lot if not all the time for this.

For Internet I didn't have to do anything when I moved from Pattaya, and one reason why I like what I have so much. I have True Vision Wireless which comes in a "Dongle", and thus looks like the shape and size of a Memory Stick. So you will need a free USB Port to use it. Quite frankly I love it.

You can, and I have, used it all over Thailand. So no more going to a hotel and paying for wireless, or getting some code, which the Internet is slow and cuts out all the time. I went to a Resort in the north once, where they did not have Internet at all. Except me! I have even used it at the Bangkok Airport, while waiting for my flight. The reception I get is always good and trustworthy. I have sat through many a thunderstorm in the dark, but not lately, with only my Lap Top and Internet working.

I have 3 G but I understand 4 G is available now. But I haven't changed as I am happy with what I have. You can also get a top up card from any 7-11 store. So if you do a lot of downloading, and the Internet starts to slow down for you, you can always replace your monthly card with the top up. After using that you can then go back to your regular monthly paid card and it should be good again, as you would not have used it for awhile. I have 2 Dongles, so I don't have to keep switching.

From one villager to another, may I suggest you do this. Invest in Good TV and Internet. You will need that here. Also stay away from any antenna. All you will do is provide a nice path for a Lightning Bolt to hit you, and destroy anything you have attached to it. You can trust me on this one. Especially since the rainy season should start very soon.

Thank you for the info, the TV plan sounds good, however for the internet I would simply not be able to afford that, I currently have a dongle/huwai modem which you can put a sim card in and the reception is better than my phone can pull plus with an antenna it would be very good yet the amount of data I use I would be spending 30,000 bhat a month easily... I like to download films, upload huge files to my webhost etc so its just not an option... im going to see TOT and see what they say as there is a phone box, I am also going to consider the CAT option, thanks for your message appreciated

Hopefully I will sort something out, even if I have to dongle it for a month or so and cut down on my downloads I will deal with it... priority number one is my wife and son so hey I will deal with these things as they come, that life eh?

If you think that the Internet may be expensive ... wait until you see the price of True TV. 555555

TBH I don't bother to watch TV as I prefer older movies and TV series from the 1950/60/70/80 and 90s and I can download them from the internet for mostly free. I pay 952 baht a month for my TOT WiNet link and it gives me unlimited downloads. My promotion is 10Mb down and 1 Mb upload. I am retired to time is not that important and if it takes me 15 minutes to download a full length movie instead of 2 minutes it doesn't really matter as I have still downloaded it.

I bought an AIS 21Mbps Aircard for 999 baht and a 3 Gbit download for 399 baht. Leaving it on 24/7 I burnt through the 3 Gb in 4 days. Too expensive to use other than as a backup.

Iam deep in the thai jungle...TOT said if 10 houses could sign up for wi fi.....they would give us our own little mast whick picks up the signal from...i dont know where...any 4 months on and 10 houses signed up....next day mast erected at all the 10 houses......marvelous reception.....no problems and quick wi fi...just paid the monthly bill today 738 bht a month....so so happy......................

Must be plenty of money out in that jungle.TOT told me 8 people,so far it's me and the other farang and i'm not holding out much hope.Have to wait for fibre optic!!!

I am the only none thai for miles and miles around....lucky for me a couple of teachers sighned up....the little school sighned up and the little doctors surgery signed up.....and then a small number of houses signed up....couldnt believe my luck....i hope you get lucky in the future ...

If you have a phone box around you would think there's an exchange box in the area.

Work out how far from the exchange you are and consider getting fibre optic.(tot)

I had fibre optic run 3.4 kms,it cost me 120,000 baht(tot)(budget it in to your house costs)

Sound expensive?,for me no,money well spent after years of bad,slow signals.30/3 1200baht a month.

That with a smart wifi tv and your problems are solved.

One thing you learn living in the sticks is if you want to wait for the service to arrive for free, you will wait along time.
