I currently live on Koh Phangan in a bungalow. The area is pretty secluded as I have few neighbors. The bungalow is very new and clean and so are the grounds, but the water which comes out of the tap looking clear, smells like manure. I have paid for 5 months stay in advance and really don't want to move, but the water stinks! I use the water to clean dishes only when I am out of filtered water, and I shower in it.

I don't drink the water.. but should I move? Does anyone else have this problem? Anyone a water expert?

Check the tank, based on previous reports you might find anything in there.

I remember one story about an apartment block which had bad smelling water and there was a corpse hidden in the tank.

I remember reading somewhere that it may be what the fish are doing in it....................wink.png

A lot of fish about?

Algae in water systems is not uncommon and can cause a foul odor. If there is a holding tank, may need to be cleaned or pipes may need to be cleaned out.

Contact the landlord and ask what he/she can do to fix it. If tanks are accessible, check them for foreign bodies. Buy water for drinking and rinsing dishes.

There are reverse osmosis/ozone water dispensers in most parts of Thailand, they look like a large refrigerator. 4 litres of water from them costs 8 - 10 baht.

Something fishy about that story..

Check your water tank for dead creatures.

About a year ago we had a 8" skink die in our bore pipe. That little creature stank the water supply for weeks until we figured out the cause and drained and flushed our tanks.

another good reason to rent.!

I dont think it is going to be a good selling point advertising the house with "water stinks, be the first in your area to have stinky water"

possible the thai plumber connected the toilet to the water tank ?

pay 5 months in advance, well, the owner has incentive to you out asap and start the scam all over then

dont drink it. or boil first if you need to drink it. everything else should not hurt too much.

i wonder why you shower in poop water , that is the real question ..................
