Some of the areas you've lumped together were originally part of a single province and not so long ago split off. For example, Yasothon and Amnat Charoen were originally part of Ubon Rachathani. Once the level of work and administration that needs to be done at a central provincial office gets to a certain level, I guess it makes sense to share out the load. It also means that people don't have to travel so far to carry out their business.

Less provinces creates more unity, unity makes countries grow faster.
