I am looking to ride a bike Phuket, can I ride a bike on an English car license and if I can what cc engine does it cover me to? In England we can drive a 125 with a cbt or 50cc without,

Thanks for your help in advance,

James

You can not. You need in Thailand a motorbike license to ride a motorbike, there is no 'up to . .cc you can ride a bike on a car license' rule.

Judging from what I see on the road, licences are free with every packet of Sontum

Not true one has to collect 3 empty pork mama noodle packs with corresponding tokens on the back exchangeable at your nearest test centre.

Thanks very much,

Could I take the license here or do you need to be a Thai national? Also how much is the test?

Yes, you can get a license here, but it will take you 2 days. And since it is quite busy it will mean on day 1 making an appointment for day 2, which will be a few weeks away.

The OP hasnt stated his visa status if VOA or not. Is it possible to take a test without a visa/extension residency letter etc? Whats the criteria these days

OP may want to obtain an International permit befor coming.

Even VOA or visa exempt can get certificate of residence.

IDP is not required but can be helpful.

Ha ha ha some of the driving certainly leaves a little to be desired! Where are the test centres? Is there one in Phuket?

Yes, at Saphan Hin in phuket town.

Definitely an IDP makes the process easier.

As far as I know it is possible of the national DP instead.

With this you just have to do the physical test and maybe "watching video"(?), no theory test (50 questions) and no "driving test" (kindergarten),

If you can not proof that you have a national permit for motorbikes then you have to do the full process for a new DP.

As @stevenl mentioned its two days. Very boring, nerve wrecking, lot of sitting around and waiting/come back.

(at least at our DLT, I have just done it)

I was not aware there was an 'ENGLISH' licence yet - even when Scotland finally breaks off it will still be a WIENGLISH one

The sooner Scotland breaks away the better, then everyone can laugh as the Scottish come begging for free prescriptions and higher rates of state hand outs back lol
