This afternoon, during the harder part of the rain storm, a young Asian tourist couple toppled their rented motor scooter in one of the deeper puddles at the Thapae Road/Chaiamphum Rd intersection. Within seconds there were 4-5 Thais right there, despite the pouring rain, helping them up, picking up the bike, their shoulder bags, etc., etc, and getting them sorted out in their polythene raincoats. and on their way again.

That sort of fellowship is nice to see.

Fell off my MTB today in the rain.

Helmet and gloves protected me from skin loss.

The roads were unexpectedly slippery.

What I find interesting about this is what OP is insinuating by this post. You must not think much of the citizens you choose to surround yourself with if you find this kind of behaviour surprising.

The roads were not unexpectedly slippery it is quite normal warm weather, followed oil ,rubber from tyres, plus rain on road surface equals slippery road surface , basic schoolboy physics, adjust your driving to suit prevailing conditions or common sense, hope you were not to badly hurt, notch it up to one of lives experiences from which we all learn.

Seeing the toppling itself is nicer still.

A nice OP followed by four negative ones. One can only hope that you topple as a form of poetic justice.

I was coming down Doi Suthip last at about 19:15 in heavy rain and a Fino type motor bike slide out on a corner. The rider went sliding across the road too. He wasn't going very fast either but was ok. Further down three tourists had stopped on a corner again on Fino type bikes. They seemed to scared to go down. Further down again were some more tourist descending at about jogging speed on fino type bikes. The road had a lot of water rushing over it but my bicycle was ok. Seeing the crash and other people riding like they were on ice dented my confidence so i was happy to off the mountain.

What gives you the idea that I was surprised? I said that seeing it was nice. That's all. Fellowship with man. Nothing more.

Stop looking for things that aren't there simply to suit your negativity.

Six months worth of oil and rubber build-up doesn't help.

While I don't hope that anyone has an accident, I think you'll see that this sort of 1 positive post followed by several negatives are the norm in ThaiVisa. Some people just don't like others to be happy.

When ever this happens (which is rather often,) it reminds me of the classic Van Beuren cartoon of the mid '30's called "The Sunshine Makers."

It's well worth the few minutes to watch it. You'll see what I mean. smile.png

Somehow I missed seeing your post. Or perhaps I saw it and my brain refused to acknowledge it.

Please clear up my confusion... Are you actually saying that you think people having accidents is nice? And Larry Bird liked that fact?

FolkGuitar , thanks for the "smiles" lesson . Takes less muscles to smile than frown , and im lazy ! , besides , it worries some people . Not enougth "sunshine" for everyone , so lets keep it our secret . biggrin.pngbiggrin.pngbiggrin.png

You're welcome. When I was in primary school (back when God's dog was just a puppy,) they used to show this cartoon to us on rainy days when we couldn't go out to play. I always liked the idea of squirting sunshine around!

It's only seven words, but since you're struggling:

I said that *seeing* the toppling is nice.

So you dislike negativity, yet hope people have accidents. Okay.

Maybe he didn't come from a country with paved roads or he might have come from some place that has very little rain.

Cute you must be as old as God if you were watching that in school.tongue.png I agree it is always nice to see things like that. I know being clumsy I have had a few spills and if their was any one close by they always offered a hand.wai.gif

The part that amazes me is, Thais going out in the RAIN. My wife thinks her life will end if she even gets a half a dozen drops of rain on her head.

But as you say, Great to see them rushing to lend a hand. Perhaps "taotoo" instead of wanting to "see" people Topple, should just go and SEE a Shrink.

Got it - laughing at people falling in puddles is wrong, but making light of mental illness is fine. Thanks for your ethical guidance.

Folk guitar thanks for that even tho it was colored. I watched those cartoons in 52 I was 3. Thanks for the memories!

LOL! Yes, I was pleasantly surprised to see the colorized version too. There is a black&white version of the cartoon on YouTube as well, but without all the breaks, pops, scratches, flickers, etc., that we used to see in the early 50's, along with the sound of the film's sprockets pulling it through the projector, I figured the colorized version would be more effective. But I do agree, it was the B&W one that really brings up the memories!

Lovely post FG...I thought all the positive people were leaving in their droves. Status Quo are a great favorite of mine too....time for a You Tube "fix".... now that I come to think of it.

Nice.

But all that sunshine bombing near the end kind of reminded me of the U.S. bombing democracy into North Vietnam.

How's that for finding something negative in a positive post? :)

A quick follow up to my previous post. Just had my fix of "Rocking all over the World",, thought that was quite appropriate seeing as we are all here...(but some not all there).

The idea struck me that it would be great if all us "Quo" fans set our clocks and made a time to blast it out all over Thailand on a certain day at exactly the same time.....show them what "real" music is all about...stuff that gets the blood racing. They certainly couldn't complain about the "noise"......don't they either love it or not even notice it.

Would we need a work permit for that?

I've taken a couple of spills on the scooter ( unhurt except for pride ) and witnessed quite a few as well. Invariably there will be up to half a dozen Thais pitching in to help, irrespective of whether it's a falang or a Thai. It's a nice part of their culture.

I can be as negative as the next person on some issues; however, when I see some of the comments in response to a positive I do wonder what sort of life those posters have.
