webfact Posted July 10, 2015 Share Posted July 10, 2015 Govt allows unregistered boats 2-month grace periodPATTANI, 10 July 2015 (NNT) – The government has answered the plea of unregistered fishing boats by allowing them to catch fish for another two months, in a bid to maintain seafood supplies and stabilize market prices.Unregistered fishing vessels have been allowed offshore again, after being forced ashore for more than ten days. The government decided to give these boats a two-month grace period to operate at sea while applying for fishing licenses and registration.The announcement prompted a number of fishing operators to resume activities and gave their crews the opportunity to earn more income. But I still see unregistered minivans transporting people, and they were supposed to be registered in June 2014, then got a few months extension, and now we are June 2015. I also still see 93% of the population ride bike without safety helmet, which are now in their 18th year of grace period. Shameful of the government. All this does is show other entities that following the same tactics will allow them to get what they want as well. Understandable the fisherman might be suffering so is this not incentive enough to register your boat and get back out there as opposed to intimidating other legally registered boats? After this two month grace period expires they will have no excuse not to be registered and if they continue on this path of intimidation after the two months then they have a separate agenda to what they are having the majority perceive. These boats should be seized full stop and not released till they comply, screw the captains/owners. I would guess they used that time to kick back and relax and used their effort to complain or boast about their lazy days now. How do you think the world is going to take this laxed attitude by giving them 2 more months? They hardly did anything in the previous 6 months they had been given. The gov should have made the same threat to the boat owners he made to the taxis. Ship up or ship out and have your boats confiscated and manned by naval personnel until they become registered properly with new owners. And 2 month is ridiculous..... If they want to be kind. Say 2 weeks and after it the penalty is just 10% and every 2 weeks another 10% will be added. After it reaches 100% the boat will be seized. They will expect the EU to buy into this crap and then bitch like hell if a red card is shown. It's difficult for LoS to play by others' rules yet expect everyone to play by theirs. Time the EU, ICAO etc saw through the BS and hit them hard as it's the only thing that might waken them up.
