When the Head of Government PM Prayut has to rely on Article 44 to "mediate" conflict, membership on the UN Security Council would seem to be the last place anyone would want Thailand.

Blaming the coup for anything is nonsense. The country is in a much better position than it was. Only those with vested interests pretend to think otherwise.

Thailand is not fit to sit on any security council IMHO. The 310:0 amnesty vote was a very clear sign of just how deep corruption is in this country. I wouldn't trust it's government with anything - whoever is in charge. They are all the end-product of the same culture where the biggest crooks always win because nobody stops them.

I feel sorry for the Thai people who are used and abused by these people - often without them even realising it.

Do you not realise how patronising this post is?

United anything is not a condition Thailand eludes to. It is beyond belief that such a beleaguered little fiefdom thinks that it can gain status with a dance troupe and a few scented statements. Sadly this country is what it is and not what the local administration wish to portray it to be.

I fail to see why any western country, little own a country like Thailand, wants to be a part of that parasitic organization.

There seems to be a parasite in some people, particularly those that diagnose an affliction in others.

The only thing Thailand can secure is its own populous. Porous border, dodgy immigration, useless armed forces and a total inability to deal with the outside world diplomatically. Other than that, a prime candidate for the security council.

because local fallen politicians can go get a golden seat + pension to go "work" there for a few years

the EURO was imposed on most member nations, nobody did a referendum, and as in greece, when there is a referendum, they just ignore it
