A story floating around right now is that a villager in Isaan recently bought himself a beautiful and outrageously expensive Siberian husky. Over time the family fell in love with this bundle of pure white puppy, but one day, someone left the gate open and off he bolted, probably looking for the cooler clime of his ancestors.

The husky turns up nearby a few days later where he ate another farmer’s tasty ducklings. The very unhappy duck owner chased the dog and “accidently” cut his head open with a machete, but not enough to kill it. He cleaned up the evidence and took the captured mutt to the head of the village who he asked to track down the owner.

The poor duck-less farmer rightly thought he was entitled to some sort of compensation; and of course an expensive dog might bring some reward.

So the head of the village agrees to look after the dog and try and find the owner.

After what was claimed to be a fruitless search, the head of the village has a few friends come around one night, out comes the bottle of Lao Thao and much merriment was had by all around the fire.

You are ahead of me I know, but hear me out. Such merriment can inflame the appetite and before long, one white Siberian husky became a sizzling Thai version of the famous American Hot Dog. By all accounts it was delicious.

So the evidence has been eaten, and although both the duck owner and the dog owner are out of pocket a new dish has made its way into the legend of Thai cuisine.

Next time you go to a ball game and eat a hot dog, make sure there arent any little white hairs in it.
