BANGKOK: -- A MEMBER of the National Reform Council (NRC) has alleged that two political parties are making preparations to instigate an uprising to oust the government of Prime Minister Prayut Chanocha and the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

NRC member General Thawatchai Samutsakorn, who was a former commander of Army Region 2, alleged that the two political parties, whom he refused to identify, were preparing to mobilise up to a million people to descend on Bangkok to overthrow the government.

The military really has no room to complain. A coup which removed an elected government (yes that government was crap and corrupt) and installed the NRC and their political bedfellows at the helm now worries that the people are going to over throw it. [However in typical fashion no actually evidence is provided to support this assertion].

I'm sorry but if their claim is true and the NRC is looking for sympathy then their combined IQ really must start with a decimal place.

I do think though that the longer they stay in power the more likely an uprising will be. The junta will claim to know who (but they are probably just spit balling) I am more worried about the way they will deal with it, this level of paranoia makes me think we'll see a repeat of May 92.

BANGKOK: -- A MEMBER of the National Reform Council (NRC) has alleged that two political parties are making preparations to instigate an uprising to oust the government of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

NRC member General Thawatchai Samutsakorn, who was a former commander of Army Region 2, alleged that the two political parties, whom he refused to identify, were preparing to mobilise up to a million people to descend on Bangkok to overthrow the government.

Thawatchai also accused the parties of being behind violence in the deep South. He said that from today until Friday the groups planned to create a disturbance in the three southernmost provinces in tandem with other groups that benefit from violence in the deep South, such as those involved in illegal oil and drug trading.

"I would like to urge the various groups who are making moves now to stop and support the government of General Prayut Chan-o-cha, in order to develop and reform the country so it can move forward," Thawatchai said.

Meanwhile, Democrat Party member Nipit Intrasombat said: "I would like Thawatchai to be more specific on which political party [was behind the incident] so that state authorities can sue the party concerned by sending the case to the Election Commission (EC) - to have the parties dissolved. This way, no one would be mistaken."

Pheu Thai MP Worachai Hema said National Reform Council members like Thawatchai Samutsakorn did not know what to do and had achieved little. They only thought of boosting their own image and tried to remain in power via the idea of a referendum that would allow the government to stay on for another two years. He said they then came up with the idea of an interim government.

"Pheu Thai Party would never do this. We are man enough," the former Pheu Thai MP said.

This rumour clearly causes fear, public concern, effects the stability of the country, damages the reputation of the country and could incite public violence. It also appears to suggest that people wish to rise up against the current benevolent government. It is also published on the internet thingy, so further, it is a breach of the computer crime act.

I would not make too many jokes about something like this, because it has happened twice now in Thailand and it could happen a third time. One never knows what goes on in the minds of the people.

I think General Thawachai Samutsakorn is exaggerating a little, I would believe some of what he is saying and that there are divisive elements that would like nothing better than to cause trouble as they have done in the past but I don't think there is general support or a will in the population for such a large scale operation, maybe a few hundred diehards and their leaders who make it their life goal to be disruptive and a menace to anyone and anything that stands in their way..........for a few thousand baht of course
