Govt expedites help for drought-hit farmers

BANGKOK, 18 July 2015 (NNT) - Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha has instructed the Ministry of Interior to survey drought-hit areas across the country in another move to step up assistance measures.

According to General Prayut, he is particularly concerned with farmers in the central region where the prolonged dry season remains unabated, whereas other regions have already experienced rainfalls thanks to the successful rain enhancement operations and the arrival of the rainy season.

Although cloudbursts have somewhat helped replenish water in main dams, Deputy Spokesperson of the PM Office Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd still urged farmers not to pump water into their fields during July 18-20, explaining that the influence of sea water invasion would be significant between July 17 and 20. A large amount of freshwater is therefore needed to prevent consumption water from turning brackish.

The government has reconfirmed it would adjust its water management plan to better serve the need of all groups of consumers once the situation returns to normal.

Princess Sirindhorn introduces Chinese famous novel “Teahouse” in Thai language

Untitled-1-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Lao She's famous 1957 three-act play "Teahouse" novel that provides a panoramic view of Chinese history and culture in their transformation from tradition to modernity has now come in Thai language by the translation of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

The Princess presided over the opening of the fair “Tea House of Life” at Siam Paragon Shopping Centre yesterday.

Organized by Siam Piwat Co Ltd and Nanmeebooks Publisher, the fair’s highlight was the introduction of her translated Chinese literature that portrays life of people in the Chinese society during five decades from 1898 until post World War II.

According to NNT, the play, using an old big tea house in Beijing as the setting, contains interesting conversations in a social satirical style. It is considered a valuable Chinese literature and also holds historical value.

The famous three-act play “Teahouse” was written by Chinese noted writer Shu Sheyu who used Lao She as his pen name for this novel.

Shu Sheyu’s original name is Shu Qingchun.

He lived between 1899 and 1966 and was a noted Chinese novelist and dramatist of 20th-century Chinese literature, and best known for his novel Rickshaw Boy and the play Teahouse.

The Thai language translation was released to celebrate the auspicious occasion of the princess’s fifth-cycle birthday anniversary on April 2, 2015, and also marked the 40th anniversary of the Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations.

At the fair, Her Royal Highness gave a talk on her book entitled “Tea House: A Play in Three Acts” which she translated from the contemporary Chinese play Teahouse.

Teahouse spans fifty years in modern Chinese history from the collapse of the Qing dynasty and the Republican Revolution to the birth of the People’s Republic.

The play brings together over sixty characters, representing all walks of life in change. It is noted for its vivid portrayal of characters and lively use of Beijing dialect, but its main thrust lies in Lao She’s vision of history, which is prophetic of later political movements and its disastrous effects on the average Chinese people.

It portrays life of people in the Chinese society during five decades from 1898 until post World War II, using an old tea house in Beijing as the setting.

The play contains interesting conversations in a social satirical style. It is considered a valuable Chinese literature and also holds historical value.

Teahouse is a rare masterpiece of the contemporary Chinese theatre. It has been performed in Japan, Europe and North America, and translated into major foreign languages.

The translated book of the princess is now available for distribution by Nanmeebooks Publisher.
