Pectin

Featured Replies

Hi can anyone advise where I can purchase some powdered pectin? (Pattaya area)

Thanks

Only place I can think of that I have seen it (I think it was import SureJel) was in friendship.

In the past I made my own using unripe Guava fruits. I used 6 of them, cut them up into small piece, added 3 cups of water and a few squeezes of fresh lime juice and boiled the hell out of it for 50 minutes or so until it reduced by a half. I then strained all the bits and pieces out using a cheese cloth, and reduced it a further half again. What was left was a very potent pectin. I got the idea because I used to make my own with Crab Apples from the garden back home, and unripe guava is the closest fruit in terms of pectin levels to crab apples in Thailand. It would work with very tart granny smiths as well but guava a lot cheaper.
