errrr.. something to do with security maybe? are you serious?

Yeah, maybe he's seriously questioning why pre-scan before the real scan. Isn't that like admitting the real scan might not work? It's security theatre.

Personally I think the more layers of security the better

And all this extra security costs $$$ and pushes the prices up. So the 99.99999% of us who are non-terrorists are expected to pay for this?

no no you are right they should let the 0.00001% pay.

Now wait until we witness a plane hijack or an exploding plane due to bombs or other various terrorist delights or even a 9-11 action replay in Bangkok and then let us listen to the pearls of wisdom that will come from the mouths of the assorted government officials.

Hey ISIS members come to Thailand and get on a plane at Don Muang no problems with security any weaponry can be carried security is no stronger than a tissue in water.

International Civil Aviation Organisation's demand for Thailand to tighten up safety regulations or face bans on international flights.

Certainly this latest move by AOT is doing wonders for travelers safety ''is it not.''

Not fair. I don't see what they fix by scanning on entry to the check-in area. What was wrong with the old system?: Baggage to be checked was screened at the check-in area and carry-ons have always been checked on the way to the gates.

The whole thing seems like it was either (a) for show, to show the international org that they're doing something or (B) out of spite, so now they can point and blame the foreigners and their meddling.

Typical knee-jerk reaction by a silly administration... a Thai specialty. The problem here is not related to general pre-scanning of carry on, (it gets scanned after check-in anyway). The problem is a rogue police force who carry pistols on planes. (Similar to the rogue police force who refuse breathalyzers, and the rogue regime leader who goes off half-cocked every single time he utters a breath.) Police and army need to do their jobs. Protecting the people from criminals and foreign invasion... simple as that. Get out of politics before Bob Geldof and Bono intervene.

Changi airport is a very smooth operation, maybe they should contact them to run the show for them?

Because that would mean having to take advise from those who know what they are doing and thus losing face, it won't happen.

Airport screening here is a joke. The retard puts it through the machine and doesn't look at the screen. Next.

Sorry to hear the masses of Chinese humanity were inconvenienced for safety. They need two lines, one for people that want baggage screened and one for the Chinese who amble through any line like cows to slaughter. Look at the pic in op...

They still x-Ray the hand luggage after you check in as they always done. Not many airports in the world X-Ray luggage before check in.

A lot of third world airports have scanning at the door and some more advanced eg Philippines, India. They also restrict entry to passengers only if they can...

The question seems to be - if it is so vitally important for security reasons to put people through this at DMK, why is it not necessary at all at BKK?

I recall going thru this at DM before Suvanabhumi was opened. Little waist high metal barricades like cattle pens set up in main arrival foyer and all bags sealed with tape after xray. Then going thru it all again prior to boarding. I don't think it was a permanent arrangement but it did happen for a time.

?????????

As I read it there is still the same screening as before, with an additional x ray screening when entering the check in area. It is that screening, due to limited number of x ray machines that is causing the problem.

So now it reverts to situation normal, as before.

In the office of every Thai official should be a sign "think before leaping" biggrin.png .

Presumably this occurs because someone realised that checked in passenger can mix with transit passengers airside before the check in passengers get scanned. A massive security risk if you want to get arms onto a plane. The solution. Let's just give up. Bravo

I don't know about Don Muang, but before someone went barking and changed the x ray station at Swampy, the x ray was in the best place, immediately before entering the gate area. Screening at emmigration is stupid because it allows ground staff to bring weapons in for passengers to pick up in the departure area.

Even the TSA can't find their asses with both hands.

"After spending over $540 million on baggage screening equipment and millions more on training, the failure rate today is higher than it was in 2007. Something is not working."

http://www.cnn.com/2015/06/01/politics/tsa-failed-undercover-airport-screening-tests/

Primarily because the TSA "Pros" are too busy finding other peoples asses with their own two hands since they have groping authority issued by the Government. Most would be unemployable had the govt not stepped in and created yet another bloated jobs program called DHS

They are talking about scanning before getting boarding passes. You still get scanned before entering the "secure" departure area. There are no transit passengers in the ticketing area.

If there is no segragation between transit and new check in passengers, a check in passenger can meet with a transit passenger and pass them anything they like.
