BANGKOK: -- The secretary-general of the National Security Council (NSC) says all the 109 Uighur deportees sent to China are in good health and well looked after.

The council is preparing a report to all relevant international humanitarian organizations to inform them of the latest situation.

NSC secretary-general Anusit Khunakorn reported today after making a visit to China to check on the condition of 109 Uighur migrants amid concern by international communities that they would ill-treated by the Chinese authorities.

He stated that he had met with a senior Chinese official who reassured him that the Uighur migrant were being cared for and he was also allowed to speak to them personally.

At present, Mr Anusit reports that they are being housed at recuperation center in Xinjiang province.

He also reports that leaders of the migrants had informed him that they were misled by international human traffickers into travelling to other countries and now regretted their decision as it has caused major problems for many countries.

He went on saying that he was willing to put his position as the secretary-general of the National Security Council on the line as assurance that all 109 Uighur migrants were not being ill-treated nor were any of them being prosecuted.

He said at present a report is being prepared which will be approved by Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, the deputy prime minister, who will then inform Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha.

He said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will later distribute the report to all the relevant international humanitarian organizations to inform them of the developments.

Well i can in know way see how this may backfire on Khun Anusit.....

Even if they are being well treated and his dubious claims are true, why on earth would he say he was willing to put his position on the line for it.

Pictures of them being tortured/beaten in 3,2,1.....

Just looked up and saw a raincloud - apparently all the world's Human Rights bodies came down in the last shower.

Seriously, what is it about this junta that they continually think that lying works? That people can't see through the twaddle they come up with pretty much daily?

"He also reports that leaders of the migrants had informed him that they were misled by international human traffickers into travelling to other countries and now regretted their decision as it has caused major problems for many countries." did anyone really say this? Of course not. Sadly not everyone is as dim as Khun Anusit.

Phew, another problem "solved" to the satisfaction of the Thai and Chinese "governments". Very speedy too.

It might be better if independent parties experienced in such matters (Red Cross?) had accompanied Anusit, and supported his "statements"?

After the military coup of 2006 by the military organization called Council for Democratic Reform, it changed its name to Council for National Security in Article 34 of the Junta's 2006 Interim Constitution.

Why did NCPO send the NSC to check on the 109 Uighur deportees sent to China when it could have done so itself?

It would seem more appropriate to have sent a representative from the Thai National Human Rights Committee. But maybe after it has been absorbed by the Ombudsman as proposed by the CDC in the new draft constitution and no longer an Independent Organization, one will be sent.
