Auction of 1.29 million tonnes of 'rotten' rice deferred until August

BANGKOK: -- The Commerce Ministry has decided to postpone an auction for 1.29 million tonnes of “rotten” rice from the end of July to August pending a final examination of the rice in question.

BANGKOK: -- Motorists driving on Phetkasem highway from Bangkok to Hua Hin district are warned of possible traffic inconvenience between 3 pm till 2.00 am from today until July 29 as the Royal Thai Army will be transporting seven giant statues of the Thai ancient great kings to be erected at Rajabhakdi Museum Park in Hua Hin district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

Surprise! New Thailand booze ban now in effect

ABOVE: Areas affected in Bangkok’s central business district under the 300-meter ban specified in the order signed Monday and expected to go into effect next month. Yesterday a more vaguely worded ban was included in a surprise batch of new laws from the military government which went into immediate effect.


BANGKOK:-- All sales of alcohol near schools nationwide, without exemption or exception, were banned yesterday under a vaguely worded order from the military government.

Auction of rotten rice postponed

BANGKOK: -- THE COMMERCE Ministry has postponed until next month a planned auction of Grade C (rotten) rice for industrial use, to ensure this lot has not been mixed up with good-quality rice that would demand a better price.

Baht weakening has sapped Thailand’s foreign reserves

BANGKOK: -- The recent weakening of Thai baht has reduced Thailand’s foreign reserves by US$ 1.5 billion or 52.3 billion baht to US$ 157.3 billion or 5.376 trillion baht against US dollars as of July 17, according to the Bank of Thailand.
